  • Peaceful dog-friendly Northumberland touring pitches in Slaley Forest
  • A 15-minute drive from Corbridge, Hadrian’s Wall and Hexham
  • Bar-restaurant and a large play area on site
Surrounded by Slaley Forest in Northumberland, the touring pitches at Springhouse Boutique Holiday Park are just as peaceful as they are scenic. And that’s not all that there is to like about this dog-friendly site, as there’s always something to do locally, whether your plans involve walking, cycling, wildlife spotting, heritage outings or admiring the dark skies. That excellent list of activities is down to the location – the site is within 15 minutes’ drive of Corbridge, Hexham and Derwent Reservoir. There's good access to lots of other top-notch Northumberland spots from this park too. For example, hikers need only take a 10-minute drive to get to the edge of the North Pennines or a 15-minute drive to hit the Hadrian's Wall Path. Your local town here is Corbridge, a place with a traditional marketplace, a bakery and an old-fashioned grocer. The Roman town also has an open-air museum and rare Roman armour. You might want to grab a pub lunch while you're out, as historical pubs also line the streets. Hexham is another fine spot nearby – on the banks of the river Tyne, this market town has a large abbey, museum, park and lots of different eateries. Back at the park, an on-site restaurant and bar (open on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes throughout the season, plus on Monday and Thursday evenings during the school holidays) take care of those times when you want a relaxed meal, a refreshing pint or a hot brew, and there's a spacious play area to keep the kids busy. Other facilities include showers, toilets and a launderette.

Hazel Court electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Lovely well kept site, nice park.
Nice pitch, lovely and quiet. Good shower/toilet facilities.

Disliked Our pitch was next to what I assume was a septic tank which didn’t smell the best. I can imagine when it is warm this would be quite bad.

As above amazing place, lovely people and great value for money.

Cedar Close electric gravel touring pitch (water hook-up)

Liked Pitches were a good size. Electric and water worked fine. Toilets and showers were decent and clean. The clubhouse held a charity night that we were unaware of so when we turned up for food they weren't serving menu but we were welcomed in by everyone and we were told to help yourselves to their buffet. The chef even went out his way to make some cheese burgers as a gesture of good will. Didn't charge us but we left a donation toward their chosen charity to say thank you. All of the spring house community were lovely, so friendly and welcoming. The clubhouse is small so we struggled to get a seat but again, one of the guys on site went out their way to make room for us. Loads of rabbits running wild which was so nice to watch. Site was so quiet at night.

Disliked Missed our pitch when trying to find it and there isn't anywhere to turn around (not easily anyway)
No fires or bbq's permitted however one of the locals said we should ask and would more than likely have been given the go-ahead for a BBQ.
Road is tight on way in

Local attractions

Must be within reach of a golf course at all times? Then it’ll be handy to know that Springhouse Boutique Holiday Park is a 10-minute drive from the nearest one. If you prefer activities that’ll push your limits, try out the zipwires at Go Ape Matfen (25 minutes) or the sailing, windsurfing and open-water swimming organised by the sailing club at Derwent Reservoir (15 minutes). One big attraction around these parts is Beamish, the Living Museum of the North (40 minutes). Spread out across the countryside, its open-air exhibits re-tell the lives of local British people from the 1820s through to the 1950s. Of course, you don’t want to forget about Northumberland National Park (40 minutes) either, especially if you like hiking. The national park trails weave past hillforts, quarries, Hadrian’s Wall, hills and crags. Kielder Water (an hour) is one of the national park’s many spectacular spots, with trails heading into the forest or around the 26-mile shore. Stop by the osprey viewing point to try your luck, before sipping on a hot brew in the café.
