You’re guaranteed the warmest of welcomes at Hadrian’s Wall Campsite, a peaceful spot edging the spectacular Northumberland National Park in the Tyne Valley. And what else are you guaranteed? An equally friendly greeting for any accompanying dogs, great views from everywhere on site, quiet downtime for you and your family and – on clear nights – a multitude of stars twinkling in the heavens of this dark skies reserve. Here you can also wake up to birdsong, walk to Hadrian’s Wall in 15 minutes, complete sections of the Coast to Coast Cycle Route (C2C) or the Pennine Way, and get back to your pitch in time to catch colourful skies as the sun sets behind the hills. If you’d rather simply chill amid nature during the day, the site’s abundant wildlife makes it a great place for spotting hedgehogs, stoats and wild rabbits. Essentials are sold in the small site shop, along with tasty locally made biscuits, chutneys, jams and ice cream. A café opens in the morning and does a roaring trade in breakfast rolls made with sausages, eggs and bacon from the butcher in Haltwhistle, 10 minutes’ drive away – wash them down with Northumberland-roasted barista coffee and milk from a neighbouring farm. Spotless showers, a washing-up area, a fridge and freezer, and a laundry with washer and dryer complete the roster of on-site facilities.

Liked Lovely welcome from staff who talked us through the facilities and local attractions and walked us to our pitch. Fantastic views from our pitch. Nice and quiet, all campers observing the quiet times. Showers and washing up area very clean, nice coffees and bacon sandwiches in the morning. Very handy for hadriens wall, Roman museum and Vindolanda. Would definitely stay again.

Liked Best opinion is Tracy and Steve should be extremely proud of their campsite. They have managed to create a convivial atmosphere with a well balanced camping mix of Tents , Campervans and Motorhomes . (Many sites of late are overrun with large motorhomes) . The site within a short walk to Hadrians Wall , is lush greenery , trees and shrubs with many good views of surrounding hills . On arrival Tracy/Steve presented a map of the area with good walks to Haltwhistle , Hadrians wall (including Winsheild Hill the highest point of the whole wall ) Sycamore Gap and Vindolanda. To breakup each walk there are excellent local pubs . Campsite very clean and well maintained

Disliked Not really a dislike , but I do think Toilet and shower block is too small around the busy times

Liked Large well laid out pitches if you choose hard standing with grass. They all seemed to offer a level of privacy. Definitely the best pitch we’ve had. The hard standing only were smaller.
Site was well maintained. The owners were welcoming and gave us good walking routes etc. Facilities were clean.
Within walking distance of the Vindolanda museum, which was well worth the walk.

Disliked Not a dislike but could perhaps benefit from another facilities block which the owners are considering.

Liked Location , Hadrian's wall 20 min walk from site. Amenities onsite very good , very clean and well maintained.
Management onsite excellent , most welcoming , very informative and friendly throughout our 3 night stay.

Liked Location so close to the Roman wall and sites, with local bus stop serving sites at end of drive.
Excellent pitch with views nicely spaced from other users.
Friendly site owners.

Liked Location is beautiful, place was spotless and we were made feel very welcome by the host, she provided us with all the information needed and gave us a map of the local hiking loops where we enjoyed a lovely meal in the pub on the loop. We will be back and highly recommend this gem of a campsite. Many thanks for your hospitality!

Many of Northumberland’s attractions are within easy walking or cycling distance; you can access both the C2C and the Pennine Way under five minutes away by car at Once Brewed, while the Northumberland 250 driving route, taking in the national park and the coastline, is about the same distance away. You are in pole position to explore Hadrian’s Wall too – it’s barely 15 minutes’ walk away, bringing with it stunning views over Northumberland’s wild fells and valleys. A trifecta of fascinating museums includes Vindolanda Roman Museum, where you can explore the remains of a Roman village; Housesteads Roman Fort – Vercovicium has sprawling relics from a hilltop fort; and the Roman Army Museum (all within 10 minutes’ drive) offers up immersive displays on ancient Roman life at Hadrian’s Wall. If the kids are rebelling against all that history, try them on the “Shaun the Sheep” art trail and the engaging wildlife exhibits at The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre (five minutes).
