Want to hire out the whole site and make a weekend of it with extended family, friends and the dogs? Step forward once more, Ravensdale Glamping Retreats, for you can book the place out for yourselves. Each two-roomed pod overlooks a pond, and inside all is contemporary styling and quality design. Underfloor heating and double glazing keeps you all cosy, while handy mod cons include two TVs, Bluetooth speakers, LED lights and USB sockets. Each spacious pod sleeps up to four – with a comfortable double bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge. Ensuite bathrooms come with a shower, toilet, basin and heated towel rails. A microwave, fridge, hob, toaster and kettle, plus all utensils and cutlery, are provided in each kitchen, so you don’t need to bring loads of gear from home. Little beats looking out over the Vale of York as you soak in the bubbles after a fun-filled day of sightseeing. Too chilled to cook after a session in the hot tub? There are several foodie pubs and takeaways within 10 minutes’ drive. Forgotten something? Head for the basics supermarkets in Easingwold.

Local attractions

Take the kids to York (20 minutes’ drive) for an immersive trip around reconstructed Viking-era streets at Jorvik Viking Centre, or indulge them with chocolate-making lessons at York’s Chocolate Story. Have a wander down The Shambles, a medieval street with overhanging half-timbered houses, and tour the landmark York Minster – clamber 275 steps up its tower for spectacular views over the city. For teenage thrills and spills, Flamingo Land Resort (35 minutes) and Family Adventure Park (45 minutes) fit the bill with adrenaline-thumping rollercoasters and water rides. Younger kids can have a run around in the soft-play centre at The Web Adventure Park, or meet the cute animals at Piglets Adventure Farm (both 15 minutes). Get out onto moorland footpaths in the North York Moors National Park (10 minutes), or have a ramble to the Kilburn White Horse (25 minutes), carved out of the chalk hillside in 1857. Mash up culture and exercise with a snoop around the opulent period rooms at Castle Howard (25 minutes), combined with a stroll to the follies and fountains in the extensive landscaped grounds.

1 bedroom camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: High quality glamping. Spotlessly clean pods with everything you could need plus added extras such as welcome basket with goodies, milk/tea/coffee, marshmallows for the fire pit and bathrobes. The site itself is lovely with its large pond, picnic benches and well kept grounds. Seamless self check-in on arrival and the owners kindly messaged the following morning to make sure everything was ok. Quiet location with just the 2 pods on site both with hot tub, fire pit, bbq and dog friendly. Throughly recommended for a relaxing break.

Disliked: Nothing!
