  • Relaxed family-run site on a farm in the Yorkshire Dales
  • A 15-minute drive from Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet's Foss
  • Well-spaced hardstanding pitches with a large dog exercise area
Ash Keys Caravan Park is a family-friendly site in a quiet corner of a family-run 165-acre farm. This peaceful spot is at the southern end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, half a mile from the teeny hamlet of Eshton and five minutes’ drive from more extensive amenities (pubs, takeaways and small supermarkets) in Gargrave. This is a most handy spot to settle in for outdoor activities: you can take walks or bike rides directly from the park, join nearby major trails like the Pennine Way (three quarters of a mile from the park), Way of the Roses and National Cycle Network Route 68. The fab attractions around Malham (Malham Cove, Janet’s Foss and Gordale Scar) are about a 15-minute drive away. The well-kept pitches here all have electricity and water hookups, plus access to a shared toilet block, Elsan point and recycling facilities. Dogs are welcome on site, and have been give their own dedicated exercise area where they can have a good run about. Barbecues are also permitted, and perhaps at their finest when graced with good food from one of the two excellent farm shops within a 10-minute drive.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely idyllic site, nestled in the countryside.
Facilities were spotless and each pitch fully serviced with TV aerial if required.
Easy self service check in and the owners send an informative email with lots of interesting places to visit and a full run down of what to expect when you arrive.

Disliked: Wifi is weak and 4G coverage a bit hit and miss, so if you want to stream any films you need to take a booster.
On our last night we took our 2 dogs, on their leads up to the dog walk, where we encountered a gentleman who started to shout at us. He said we couldn't come into the field as he was exercising his dog off the lead and it was very 'reactive' with other dogs. We politely asked him to put it on a lead as the field was for the use of everyone, but he became very argumentative. We did not back down as our dogs were desperate to do their 'business'. This did spoil what had been a lovely stay and certainly no fault of the site owners. But it would be prudent to have signage to enforce dog owners to ensure they put their dogs on leads at ALL times.

Liked: A fabulous relaxing stay at Ash Key’s - just what we needed to unwind. It was a bonus to hear the song of the Curlew and watch the space station glide by. Pitches a good size, brilliant dog walk for those with dogs. Facilities clean and well kept. Wonderful views of the hills and so quiet. Will definitely be returning just need to work out when!

Liked: Everything.
Toilet & hand basin in sheds always immaculately clean & much better than ‘hear your neighbour ‘ booths on most sites.
Regarding the walk to the showers - along the farm track with a beautiful Sycamore tree on the right & Copper Beech in the farm yard and fabulous views to the hills what’s not to like ?
Walk time 1’35” from the nearest pitch & 3’00” from the most distant, time well spent.

Disliked: Leaving

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: This is a beautifully quiet site with no road noise whatsoever. All you can hear are sheep, cows and birds. Absolutely stunning views from the very spacious [fairly] level pitches, all with water, electricity and grey waste. There are two toilets on the camping field which are in a shed, but spotless. There are two further toilets and two showers slightly further away by the main building. Indi [the owner] sends out an extremely detailed welcome pack via e-mail. The WiFi is good enough for checking mails but when others are streaming films/TV it does slow down. Liked the fact you can choose your own pitch so we will definitely be back.

Disliked: Leaving to come home.

Local attractions

If you’re not planning lengthy rambles on the long-distance paths, set forth for some of the local highlights instead. Get going in Gargrave (five minutes’ drive) with a waterside walk by the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, then see cascades in action at Linton Falls (20 minutes). Make time for Malham too: a 15-minute drive gets you over to this fab village and its trio of top sights (Malham Cove, Janet’s Foss and Gordale Scar). After that, take an uphill challenge on the mountain paths of Pen-y-Ghent (35 minutes) or head underground to see what’s in store at Ingleborough Cave (40 minutes). Other ways to get about? Perhaps with a day of horse riding from Kilnsey or a rather more laidback trip on the Settle-Carlisle Railway – both are about 20 minutes’ drive away. And if you’ve got tiddlers who’d benefit from staying in one place for a while, there’s plenty to keep them amused among the animals, tractor tours and play areas of Hesketh Farm Park (20 minutes).
