  • Simple and scenic rural site a mile from the Yorkshire coast
  • A mile from Hayburn Wyke waterfall; Scarborough 15 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes' walk from the Cinder Track path and a pub
Few things in this world can compare to flitting around the Yorkshire coast. Toing and froing between Scarborough's seaside scenes to Whitby's clifftop abbey is best done by bike along the Cinder Track, an old railway that runs through the green surrounds of the North York Moors National Park along easy flat terrain. And when it comes to finding somewhere to rest your head after all that pedalling? The Hulleys Campsite could well be the answer. This simple and scenic rural site is set a few minutes' walk from that traffic-free bike trail and 10 minutes from a local pub. On top of that, The Hulleys Campsite is within easy strolling distance of the coast (roughly a mile from base), where the splendid Hayburn Wyke waterfall makes a very pretty backdrop for picnics, walks and general seaside frolicking. It's a five-minute drive from these spacious pitches into the village of Cloughton, where a couple more pubs and a farm shop are on hand to keep you fed and watered during your stay. For supermarkets and a wider range of restaurants, steer yourself towards Scarborough (15 minutes). The Hulleys Campsite prides itself on keeping camping here simple. The facilities reflect that, with low-key but functional toilets and showers. Dogs, barbecues, commercial vehicles and student groups are all welcome.

Liked Clean, tidy, well looked after place. The waterside pitches are relaxing and the carp are busy in the early autumn sun.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Lovely site magnificent views very peaceful and quiet

Disliked Shower block is main thing but James has already explained about the planning permission issue so it is what it is and the price per night is reflected on this. Maybe be an idea to put a mop and bucket in there so people can tidy up after themselves I certainly would when I used the shower it takes two minutes to leave it clean for the next person

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Views from the site are fantastic. Pitches are level and well spaced.

Disliked Facilities - toilet block is basic which is fine but not clean. No soap which looks like that’s been the case for a while. One of the washing up sinks has a tide mark of mould in it.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked The view was amazing! The pitches were level and a good size. Great pub around the corner.

Disliked The toilet and shower block was not clean. We didn’t see anyone cleaning them the whole weekend we were there. Also quite far away from the beach. Assumed it was near enough to walk to.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked I liked the individual set up of the pitch . Also the number of pitches is kept to a minimum and set out in a regimented fashion as to enjoy the view of the coastline. Never bothered , left alone which is good , quiet little place with 2 pubs nearby . Options of a caravan or 2 small cottage type accommodation and a log style hut . Close to Scarborough but far away enough. Booking was easy. Check in was easier .

Disliked Sorry but I have to mention 2 things .

Lighting a massive fire in your farm at 9.30 at night was in my opinion unwarranted and dangerous. Campers were walking around out of there tents in the pitch darkness not knowing what the hell was going on.

Especially with the fires on the moors happening around the same month. And burning cardboard as you said , why not recycle?? Sorry but I just didn't get it .

And number 2 . Literally. The toilet block . Haven't seen toilets like that since I was driving a wagon around the UK in the worst truckstops . Just Mopping the floor doesn't qualify as cleaning the toilets . And the male shower . Absolutely disgusting. The whole portacabin needs removing and you should build some decent clean up to date showers and toilets . And maybe a bothy too . You could put your price up to 20 pound a night and it would still be a bargain.

From the manager: Just so you know. The fire pit witch is a 25ft deep hole witch has a soil bundle around especially made for burning in safely is not near the campsite it is over at the farm. The fire mentioned in this feedback was lit at 3pm but could not be seen until it came in dark. The smoke looked orange as the embers 25ft down it the pit were still glowing. I would not lite a unsafe fire. As far as the toilet block gose I have been trying to get planning permission from the national parks for 2 years to build a new block but thay will not allow this. I have to keep the block I have. Out of my hands sorry.
James.

Local attractions

Planning a trip to Scarborough is easy, as Britain's first ever seaside resort is a mere 15-minute drive to the south. Donkey rides, Victorian buildings like the Spa, sticks of rock and amusement arcades are all available here, as are two sweeping sandy beaches, the Asian-inspired landscapes of Peasholm Park and Oliver's Mount, a large wooded hill 500 metres above the town with a well-stocked fishing lake and fantastic far-reaching vistas. Whitby (half an hour) is the other must-see town in the area, but this part of Yorkshire is peppered with other sights too – there’s Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (40 minutes) with its nesting birds and beaches, Sewerby Hall and Gardens (45 minutes) for tours round a historic country pile, Flamingo Land Resort (50 minutes) for adrenaline and excitement… Want to focus on the North York Moors National Park? Ride out on mountain bikes through Dalby Forest (35 minutes), step among the scenic stones of Rievaulx Abbey (an hour and 10 minutes) or get down to the village of Goathland (30 minutes) to see the Mallyan Spout waterfall and a train station that featured in the Harry Potter films.
