  • Fabulous location on the banks of the River Ouse in Bishopthorpe
  • A 10-minute drive to York city centre, with summer riverbus available
  • Restaurant, café-bar, playground, beauty salon and kayak hire on site
The name says it all here – The Riverfront is indeed in a wonderful location right on the banks of the River Ouse, on the edge of the North Yorkshire village of Bishopthorpe. This is a fabulous setting for many reasons – the lush greenery and river views take top billing, of course, but there’s also the fact that the centre of York is only about three miles away. Drive up to the city in about 10 minutes, cycle it in 20 minutes or (if you're here between April and September) catch a riverbus for a particularly scenic journey to the centre. There are other ways to enjoy that river scenery too – you can hire motor boats or kayaks on site or take walks along the riverside path. And if that all sounds like too much effort, just find a quiet spot on site and settle down with your book or connect to the wifi to send lovely pics to your pals back home. Facilities at this site have been very nicely thought out – there's a playground for the kids and a beauty salon where frazzled grownups can treat themselves to a bit of pampering. Food is easily sorted as well, with a café-bar selling breakfasts, coffees, snacks and sandwiches on site. Bosun, the main restaurant (open Thursday to Sunday), also has a full menu featuring local seasonal ingredients, steak specials, seafood dishes, Sunday lunches and kids’ options. Even the bathrooms are worth an honourable mention here too – these smart modern facilities have been stylishly decorated and kitted out with accessible facilities as well as handy extras like hairdryers.

What customers say

This is a beautifully maintained, clean, and peaceful riverside site with excellent modern shower and toilet facilities, frequently described as the best ever experienced. Guests appreciate the convenient location for visiting York via walk, bus, or river taxi. Minor points raised include limited washing-up sinks, occasional WiFi issues, and occasional noise from nearby works, with some noting the restaurant has limited opening hours.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (no awning, small)

Liked Beautiful site, next to the river and a 10 min walk to the village. Nothing to dislike. Restaurant shut when we visit but the wee coffee shop served lunch and snacks. Sitting in the dombed pod next to the river was lovely. Great pitch size, clean facilities.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (medium, no awning)

Liked Really nice site and a great location, not sure where the checkin time restriction comes in, I asked at the cafe ands told I didnt need to check in as I already knew the pitch etc so just park up and enjoy. We caught the bus into York and thats a 10 min walk to the stop with a 30 min trip into the middle of town but a great and easy way to see York. Went in time for the food festival which is great and taking the bus meant sampling the food and drink in the tents was worry free.

Shower block clean and well looked after, really nice showers.

Disliked We couldnt seem to get the wifi to work but not a major issue so didnt ask or raise it. Very minor in the scheme of things and Im sure it could have been sorted if we had bothered.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch (no awning, XL)

Liked Great location close to the river. Very clean well maintained site with nice shower block.
Small cafe on site open every day 9-4.

Easy walk , just over an hour and mostly along the river , into York although there is a bus stop in the village a short walk away and an uber was less than £9 one way

Disliked The water taxi wasn’t operating when we were there but it is quite expensive so might not have used it anyway
(Uber was under £9 for 4 of us back from York. Water taxi was £17 each return )

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback and for highlighting our riverside location and facilities. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and found the café and transport options convenient.
Just to clarify, the Riverbus service is operated independently—we simply provide the pontoon as a local pick-up and drop-off point. The Riverbus is an experience-based service that offers a unique way to travel into York and operates only on set days. We hope you enjoyed your visit and look forward to welcoming you again soon!
