  • Dog-friendly adults-only site with a lake seven miles from York
  • Peaceful countryside location near cycling tracks to York and Selby
  • Close to dog-friendly pubs in nearby villages; bus service outside
Whether your holiday plans tend to include peaceful cycles, wildlife spotting or memorable meals out in local pubs, Old Pasture Park is a good base for all of these sorts of things. This peaceful North Yorkshire countryside escape is an adults-only site with its own lake seven miles from York city centre. For pedals there, there’s a cycling track one and a half miles out from the site, and it leads to Selby in the other direction, a splendid little market town with a medieval abbey and 15th-century gatehouse. Dogs are welcome to join you on your break here and handily, the lake, though not available for fishing, has a path that’s just the thing for the walkies. There’s also Skipwith Common National Nature Reserve for more dog walks 15 minutes' drive away. As for mealtimes, there are dog-friendly pubs in the surrounding villages, all a short drive away. Keep your eyes peeled for the wildlife that uses the site's lake as their habitat. Ducks, oystercatchers and moorhens are some frequent visitors, but indeed, they are not the only animals around this place. Being a working farm, the fields surrounding the park are home to a medium-sized herd of suckler cows and their calves in the summer months. When you’re ready to get out and about, there’s a fair choice of destinations, from two golf courses within around seven miles of the site to the historic York city centre (20 minutes’ drive), with its minster, the Shambles street and homemade fudge shops. To get around, there’s a handy bus service 40 metres from the site entrance.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We absolutely love Old Pasture Park as it’s only an hour’s travelling from home and easily accessible. The approach is beautiful and you pass the farm’s cowshed to enter the pitches which are a good size and have electric hook ups and a personal water tap. The pitches are around a lovely circular central field and there are fields all around. There is a beautiful lake to walk around too, which has two shepherds huts on its perimeter and there are also flower beds to view. There is a bus stop just 300 yards up the road from the touring park, which makes it so easy to get into York without using your car. Sam and his family, the owners, are lovely and very amiable. This is one of our favourite CL’s as it’s really quiet and has hardstandings which are very flat. Highly recommended.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked: Have been to this site a number of times love everything about it from the friendly welcome, the flat pitches and the easy access into York as it is on main bus route and close to cycling paths with great pubs and villages nearby to explore. We recently went during wet weather but there was no problems with flooding on site has it drains well. Pitches are good size and reasonable prices.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike which is why we keep going back again and again we love it .

Local attractions

How to commence your holiday in North Yorkshire? Seeing what bargains you can hunt down in the Designer Outlet York (10 minutes’ drive) or a swimming, gym or cycling session in the cool York Sport Village (20 minutes)? Perhaps searching for wildfowl, insects and other animals or birds around the Wheldrake Ings Nature Reserve (15 minutes)? There are a lot of historic things to see around York and Selby, but to see aircraft and control towers from older times, Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial (20 minutes) is also a short drive away. Make a hobby of wildlife spotting if you like – with RSPB Fairburn Ings (25 minutes) and RSPB St Aidan's Nature Park (35 minutes) within reach, there are a variety of landscapes around. If you fancy somewhere you can walk to close by too, you won’t have to take too much time out to visit the family-owned Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens (15 minutes’ walk), where there’s a plant nursery, pond, plenty of pretty plants and visiting wildlife like birds and bees.
