Liked Jenny met me on arrival and was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, especially with my dog. She placed us in a secure area as it was quiet where he could safely roam free, which made such a huge difference.

The facilities were excellent, with plenty of hot water and everything kept clean and well maintained. The pitches were level and well presented, and the EHU provided a constant supply. I've stayed on sites where the electric has tripped if I've tried to use both rings on my hob, but there were no such issues here. There was also reliable Wi-Fi available throughout the site.

The location is great too, with a lovely walk into Helmsley. I caught the bus back, which was very convenient, and enjoyed a fantastic home-cooked meal at The Rose and Crown in Nawton, just a 15-minute walk up the lane. The lane isn't fully lit, so don't forget a torch! Being a working farm, there are animals on site, which adds to the charm and character of the campsite.

Honestly, there's nothing not to love about this place. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe, especially knowing Jenny was on site. Clean, friendly, peaceful and very well run. I'm already looking forward to staying again next season when The Cowshed reopens.

Liked Convenient location and easy to find for visit to Castle Howard.

Disliked The camping field was covered in cow poo. With a 9 month old pup that loves nothing more than eating cow poo it became stressful instead of relaxing!
The owner let me move into the caravan field which then meant other campers walking past my pup who being tied on a long line would be reactive... not ideal for anyone!
I've chosen campsites carefully so I can get pup used to camping in the van, will be more careful when it's camping on a working farm 🐄

We are a working farm, and as we are coming towards the end of the camping season, the grass is growing very quickly. As the site is now quieter, we had allowed the cows to graze the top half of the camping field, with the other half still available for campers.

You had mentioned to us that your 9-month-old pup had eaten part of a tyre the previous weekend, so we completely understood your concern about what he might pick up. We were therefore happy to offer you the caravan field as an alternative.

We appreciate that this then created a different challenge, with your pup being reactive to people walking past while on a long line.

We’re sorry that your stay wasn’t as relaxing as you had hoped. We do our best to accommodate our guests, but as a working farm. 🐄

Liked Showers and toilets immaculate, washing up area clean, water point. Short walk into Nawton. Owner very helpful.

Disliked Only disturbance was from hounds barking early morning, but nothing the site can do about that.

Regarding check-in, unfortunately I had no mobile phone reception when you arrived and therefore wasn’t able to respond at the time. However, as soon as I returned to the site and saw that you had arrived and pitched up, I messaged to apologise for not being there when you checked in and to let you know that if you needed anything during your stay, they could get in touch. I’m sorry if this was still disappointing.

Regarding the cow pats, this was towards the very end of our camping season, when the site was becoming quieter and the grass was growing extremely quickly. We had allowed the cattle to graze part of the field rather than leaving it unused. Only part of the field had been grazed, and this was a temporary end-of-season arrangement.

I’m also a little surprised by the comment that the toilets and showers were “just acceptable”. We regularly receive very positive comments about how clean our facilities are. We provide toilets, showers, a disabled wet room, laundry facilities and a fridge/freezer for campers to use. We would have welcomed the opportunity to know what in particular you felt could have been improved.

We do appreciate feedback, but it would have been helpful if these concerns had been raised with us during your stay, as we would always try to help wherever we can.
