Cliff Farm Holidays: The barn from the outside

General

  • Peaceful rural site on a 120-acre working farm in Sinnington
  • On the edge of the North York Moors under an hour's drive from York
  • Walking trails around the farm for gorgeous Ryedale views

If you're the sort whose ideal rural break features not only heaps of peaceful space and gorgeous views but also a pub within walking distance and a bare minimum of narrow lanes to negotiate, Cliff Farm Holidays could well be the one for you.

Access to this North Yorkshire site is pleasingly easy – just take a very short detour off the A170 and you'll be rewarded with 120 acres of working arable and beef farm. There’s stunning scenery at every turn, and the folk here have made the most of their Ryedale views by setting up walking trails around the farm leading to some of the prettiest corners.

Walking’s also a great way to get to the nearest pub, a mere 15-minute stroll away in Sinnington, or to take in the trails of the North York Moors National Park, whose boundaries are a mile or so away. To grab a fish supper or stock up for your evening barbecue, it's a 10-minute drive to Pickering’s shops, supermarket and chippie.

Days out can be any combo of coast, country and city that you fancy concocting: the seaside’s 45 minutes’ drive away at Scarborough, and York's historic streets are just under an hour away. Stately homes, animal park, heritage train rides and adventure parks are all in the local area, too.

Facilities on site include a toilet block with showers and an accessible/family bathroom, a laundry room and a covered washing-up area. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you but must be on a lead at all times; there’s a dog run and mess bin provided.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Bookings must not be for more than 31 consecutive nights.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Group bookings of 4 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site is very clean and well kept. We managed to get a pretty flat pitch, but quite a lot are sloping. The toilets and showers were large and clean. The farm walk was very pleasant.

    Disliked:

The showers were push button and fixed. The button didn't always work. Otherwise the showers were fine.

The farm dog nicked one of my slippers! This was quite funny btw and it was quickly recovered.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear about the slipper and hope that it wasn't too soggy once retrieved!! We do hope to see you all again soon.

Loved the views and the fact that this is a real working farm. The shower and toilet facilities were spotless, there is even a laundry room. I liked the fact that we could check in as late as 9pm, having worked that day with an hour and half journey before arriving at the farm. I could see on arrival that the were working on glamping pods which are set into the ground, and looked fabulous. The pitches are uneven which is to be expected as this is true countryside so make sure you have your wheel lever chocks packed. The farm is a stones throw away from the beautiful village of Sinnington, where you will find the Fox and Hounds Inn. I'm not sure if the track leading to the farm has lighting so would recommend taking a torch if you did decide to venture to the pub and the dark nights have drawn in.

    Disliked:

    I wouldn't say I have anything to dislike :)

sadly near the place a farm was spreading muck bad smell at times and the cottage do need its own bathroom and toilet.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately we are in the countryside and at this time of the year muck spreading is everywhere. As regards to the facilities, we do say that they are across the yard from the barn itself.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately it is that time of the year at the moment when farmers are spreading the muck. I do hope Pip behaved himself and wasn't too cheeky! He has become rather good at 'greeting' our guests this year! Hope to see you again soon.
