Our pitch
Pool bridge farm, wild swimming for adults and children a 20 minute drive from site
Dreamers gardens. a ten minute walk from the site through the woods

  • Peaceful dog-friendly site surrounded by the Yorkshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to York, the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Castle Howard
  • Walk to the Northwood Trail, a café and restaurant; farm shop nearby
A chilled drink in hand, the Yorkshire Wolds on the horizon and a belly full of fresh farm food grilled on your barbecue… that’s one way to spend an afternoon at Beech Farm. Other ways include hiking out into the Yorkshire Wolds (the site is around 20 minutes’ drive from the Yorkshire Wolds Way for long-distance hikes) or setting about exploring the immediate countryside. A 20-minute drive from York, this is a peaceful escape for any city dwellers… or indeed, a wise spot for those looking to check out its chocolate-making history, historic minster and Shambles shopping street from a base that’s in the countryside. The gorgeous site is half a mile back from a main road and has views across the fields, woods and the distant Yorkshire Wolds. The site is simply a beautiful field with a rustic toilet, shower and wash-up block, so it’s just the place for those seeking a back to basics break and lots of peace and quiet. Handily, dogs are very much welcome too. Yorkshire strolls might be next up. If so, the three-mile Northwood Trail is just 15 minutes’ walk from the site too. On the trail, there’s a restaurant, café and a simple playground. If you’re after more tasty things to eat (or to take back for a barbecue), there’s a farm shop and café five minutes’ drive away (or a 45-minute walk away), as well as a cluster of pubs in Stamford Bridge (five minutes’ drive or 45 minutes’ walk).

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-maintained site on a working farm with spacious, flat pitches and lovely views. Visitors praised the clean, modern toilet and shower facilities, noting thoughtful extras like kettles and hairdryers. The friendly owners and farm animals were a highlight, making it ideal for families. While most found the site excellent, a few noted minor issues with the basic toilet enclosures and a desire for more on-site amenities.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Fridge & hair dryer.

Disliked No mirror above basin in toilet for brushing teeth so people brushed there teeth in the sinks where you clean your dishes. Not sites fault but if mirrors were in with toilets people wouldnt do this.

From the manager: I was really surprised by this review as giving four stars for a ‘basic site’ seemed so odd. You literally decided to book a basic site. It’s all in the description.. you can’t possibly have expected a bar, pool, clubhouse etc- you actively chose somewhere basic but beautiful.

I went to see who had written the review- all is revealed- they aren’t happy as I had to text them to ask them to slow down passing our house. They were driving ridiculously fast past the farm house, if a child or a chicken had stepped out from behind the hedge there is no way they could have stopped- so disrespectful. What sort of person ignores innumerable signs and just speeds past a house, knowing full well there are children there.

If future campers are reading this review please note we are lowering our tolerancy on this. Anyone driving up and down the lane over 15 mph will simply be asked to leave immediately.

Also just to note, I parked in York one day last week, it cost me £21 for the whole day. I didnt get any facilities, and it was totally crowded and stressful- please don’t act like around £25 is a lot for a night away, the toilet block, though basic, cost around £35000 to build, that’s an awful lot before we break even, not to mention children being silly and wasting hot water in and out the showers.

We have had so many wonderful campers, please please make sure we are what you want before booking with us. As comments like this are dragging us down

Perfect for a quiet break.

Non-electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean, quiet, well-organised campsite. Great to have use of the kettle and to be able to cycle around the grounds. Easy to get to York and Whitby by car. We also visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park from here, although it’s not super close.

Non-electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked This is a really lovely site. Very well maintained, very clean and thoughtful kitchen items available if you have forgotten matches or essentials. The view across the fields is great. There were only 5 other tents when we stayed so felt very spacious. Not sure whether it gets much busier at peak holiday times but for us it was spacious and quiet and just right.

Disliked Not sure if WiFi was available- didn’t see any information about it but forgot to check!

Non-electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked This was a lovely family friendly campsite. The facilities were good and well kept. The grass was nice and short and there was plenty of space for the kids to run about and play games.

Disliked Some other campers were noisy past quiet time, although not the owners fault maybe a sign to reinforce the quiet times would assist with this.

Apologies for the other campers. They were absolute heathens, we have now employed a night watchmen to dispatch any such sorts as soon as the start behaving badly

Non-electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Friendly owners and other campers. Our grandchildren made 3 new friends for the evening.
Excellent communication from the owners, with instructions for arrival.
Quiet location.
Animals, (goats, donkeys & chickens), entertained the grandchildren.
Toilet block basic, (2 showers & 2 toilets) but clean & sufficient.
Small kitchen area equipped with communal freezer, kettle etc.
We would certainly stay again if over that way.

Disliked Not a dislike, it suited us fine but it has to be appreciated that the site is a “field” not a commercial playground. Our grandchildren loved the “farmness” of it.
We never considered wi-fi. Would doubt that it is there but mobile reception was fine.
Turning left from the site, (with larger motorhome or caravan), as a narrow bridge is very narrow. We only got through with an inch or so to spare.

Non-electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site itself, fantastic, I cant flaw anything, it was exactly as described. Honestly a brilliant remote place to camp. Staff where brilliant. Seeing the farming equipment when you drive in and out and seeing it in use (Bit gutted we didn't get to see the harvester with the boom out but, cant predict that as someone who knows nothing about farming) Honestly brilliant, Toilets where clean a stocked up, Shower worked quickly.

We even managed to see a falcon about 50ft away from us, and a Murder of about 30 crows eating all the earwigs in the wheat fields.

Disliked If I had to picky about the site, if I really had too, The open top toilet and showers, but I'm really struggling to be that picky.

The only problems I had on this trip was a couple of other campers, Which isn't the sites fault. We had three young women screaming, staring at us as they walked past. They seemed rather inexperienced which isn't anyone's fault we all start somewhere, but a fly landing on you is a normal thing camping, don't wake everyone up because of it. The main problem was there high school popular bully characteristics. Caused quite the upset in our tent at one point. Our neighbours also kept complaining about there behaviour and attitude. Again, That's not a fault of the site though. This happens camping. We even repaired someone's tent that collapsed while they where away and there thanks was "I was just hoping someone else would fix it for me"

Local attractions

Soaking in some of Yorkshire’s history should be no hard feat around here. Start with the rural side of Yorkshire at Murton Park (10 minutes’ drive), which is a farming museum with 14 acres of playgrounds, animals and historic areas all about Yorkshire farms in the present and past. Castle Howard (20 minutes) is a similar spot with a historic house and estate, playground and walks where the fashionable Howard family have strolled for 300 years or so. Keep up your history-themed tour with a visit to the National Railway Museum York (half an hour) or welcome a bit of wildlife art into your itinerary with a look around the Robert Fuller Gallery Ltd (20 minutes) - and see what inspiration strikes for when you’re relaxing around the green spaces at Beech Farm. Any folk who have come prepared with all their hiking gear and who are itching to get going will get in a good, long hike around the Yorkshire Wolds Way (around 20 minutes), a Wolds trail totalling 79 miles. Failing that, the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25 minutes) has a gorgeous set of trails.
