Set in 10 acres of stunning North Yorkshire moors and countryside, York House Caravan Park is just 10 minutes’ drive away from Whitby – not that you’ll need much reminding, as the Gothic abbey is visible from parts of the site. This spacious site in the small village of Hawsker appeals to both couples and families – and it must be doing something right, as guests often come back year after year. There are two play areas for kids, and also plenty of opportunities for gentle strolls and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. It’s a canine-friendly place too, with a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, there’s easy access to the Cinder Track, a 21-mile path along the disused railway from Whitby to Scarborough. Leaving the car behind on your adventures? There's a good bus service from Hawsker to Scarborough in one direction and Middlesbrough in the other. On-site facilities include a well-maintained shower block, a washing-up and laundry room, and – saving the best news for last – a bar and restaurant for those days when you just don’t feel like catering for yourselves. There’s also a local pub five minutes’ walk away, which serves tasty home-cooked food and a good selection of drinks.

Liked: We thought Staff were really friendly, pitch size was good and the onsite bar with optional food service was great

Disliked: Bathrooms need updating. We probably didn’t need electric but obtained anyway and used 39p of £5

Liked: Clean and tidy outside, plenty of taps for water. Friendly staff. Good for families.
Good location with close by bus service

Disliked: We were on the main field / pitch, right next to play area and were surrounded by families and big groups we wished we were on the side bit which seemed abit quieter but might be I needed to reserve a different type of pitch?
Everyone was friendly though.

Liked: Nice clean camp site ,there was a play are where our children mixed with all the other children in the surrounding campers. Clean hot showers. Friendly receptionist when we arrived, giving lots of information.

Disliked: The only thing we were disappointed in was the lack of food at the restaurant/ takeaway. After packing up to come home we went to go for breakfast before setting off homeand the restaurant only serves breakfast on certain days.

Liked: Almost everything about our stay was perfect, pitch was great, toilet and shower facilities were spotless and warm. Reception staff really friendly and helpful

Disliked: Super critical but I found it difficult in the toilets with the loo roll being on the wall behind the toilet.

Would also like to have seen the onsite cafe/bar open a bit more - maybe that was just an off peak issue though

Liked: Clean, well kept and quiet. Motorhome pitch which was reasonably level. Used ramps so no problems. Cafe was open at the weekends only. Staff in the cafe were lovely and the breakfast was excellent.

Disliked: The water in the shower block was so hot as to be intolerable. Showering was not a pleasant experience. All four of us felt the same. I did raise it as a concern but was told it was fine. Would like to have seen him stand under it for a few minutes. I spoke to other campers who expressed the same concerns especially those with small children. We were there the week before half term so it was quite quiet whether that made a difference I don't know. Either way it was way too hot.

Local attractions

York House Caravan Park is nicely located on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a short drive from here to Robin Hood’s Bay (five minutes’ drive), where ghost walks tell the story of times gone by. For a small taste of the village's smugglers' history, head to the museum. For hikers, there are fine choices around such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way (five minutes) through the North York Moors, and the Coast to Coast Path (five minutes) ending at Robin Hood’s Bay. Those who prefer to travel at higher speeds can take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the station in Whitby (10 minutes) – after spending some time exploring the famed abbey, of course. Goathland (20 minutes) is a popular destination – it's the home of the TV series 'Heartbeat' and starred in the Harry Potter films too. There are so, so, so many pretty spots along the coast that you might find it hard to choose where to spend your time. However, Ravenscar (20 minutes), a pretty coastal village with splendid cliffs, and the more ‘happening’ Scarborough (half an hour) are some very nice picks.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
