  • Well-kept, peaceful Yorkshire park five minutes’ drive from Whitby
  • Robin Hood’s Bay five minutes’ drive and Scarborough half an hour
  • Restaurant and bar on site, plus a play area and dedicated dog park
Set in 10 acres of stunning North Yorkshire moors and countryside, York House Caravan Park is just five minutes’ drive away from Whitby – not that you’ll need much reminding, as the Gothic abbey is visible from parts of the site. This spacious site in the small village of Hawsker appeals to both couples and families – and it must be doing something right, as guests often come back year after year. There are two play areas for kids, and also plenty of opportunities for gentle strolls and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. It’s a canine-friendly place too, with a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, there’s easy access to the Cinder Track, a 21-mile path along the disused railway from Whitby to Scarborough. Leaving the car behind on your adventures? There's a good bus service from Hawsker to Scarborough in one direction and Middlesbrough in the other. On-site facilities include a well-maintained shower block, a washing-up and laundry room, and – saving the best news for last – a café, bar and restaurant (opening days and times vary depending upon the season; there are reduced hours in low season) for those days when you just don’t feel like catering for yourselves. There’s also a local pub five minutes’ walk away, which serves tasty home-cooked food and a good selection of drinks.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained and clean campsite with friendly, helpful staff. It boasts a great location, ideal for exploring Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, with convenient bus links. Facilities, including the shower block and bar/cafe, are generally praised for cleanliness and functionality. A large dog walking field is a particular highlight. Some guests found pitches to be on the small side or uneven, and the electricity payment system was a point of concern for a few. The bar and cafe had varied opening hours, which was a minor inconvenience for some. Despite these points, many visitors found it excellent value and would recommend or return.

Liked Great site and good facilities.

Disliked Having to pay extra for electricity and having to go out of the site to get back to reception if, like me, you are unable to walk up hills easily.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Unfortunately we had to leave due to unforseen circumstances so didn't stay overnight, however for the short time we were there we were impressed with the staff both at reception and in the bar area. Access to Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay was very good on the bus, the stop being a 5 minute walk from the site.
We look forward to returning soon to try again.

Disliked On our short stay we found nothing to dislike

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked As always, lovely welcome, clean, well managed site. Clean facilities. Good on site bar. Quiet setting. Positioned well for exploring Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay.

Disliked Extra payment for electric isn't ideal. Hard to judge how much is needed and anxious about it running out overnight. This is the only site we have stayed on where electric is extra. Lovely site. Despite the electricity arrangements we have been several times and will return.
Wasn't aware of wifi and didn't connect to it if it was available .

York house family camping pod

Liked Good location to whitby and Robin hoods bay and surrounding areas.
Pitches good size and reasonable cost.
Good onsite facilities and toilets, shower block and laundry for extended stays.

Stayed in the little cabins to avoid pitching and awning and having un metered electric.
As weather is off season so cold and windy.

Disliked Nothing. Off season for an October half term break so weather is temperamental.

Local attractions

York House Caravan Park is nicely located on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a short drive from here to Robin Hood’s Bay (five minutes’ drive), where ghost walks tell the story of times gone by. For a small taste of the village's smugglers' history, head to the museum. For hikers, there are fine choices around such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way (five minutes) through the North York Moors, and the Coast to Coast Path (five minutes) ending at Robin Hood’s Bay. Those who prefer to travel at higher speeds can take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the station in Whitby (10 minutes) – after spending some time exploring the famed abbey, of course. Goathland (20 minutes) is a popular destination – it's the home of the TV series 'Heartbeat' and starred in the Harry Potter films too. There are so, so, so many pretty spots along the coast that you might find it hard to choose where to spend your time. However, Ravenscar (20 minutes), a pretty coastal village with splendid cliffs, and the more ‘happening’ Scarborough (half an hour) are some very nice picks.
