  • Luxury shepherds’ huts in a quiet corner of a working farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Thirsk and 15 to North York Moors National Park
  • Child-free, dog-friendly site with a two-acre fishing lake
Mosey over to Morndyke, just outside Thirsk (10 minutes’ drive) in the stunning Yorkshire countryside, for a break at an award-winning glamping site. A stellar spot for a bit of silence, this park’s kid-free policy means no boisterous bairns are allowed. As well as not toting the tiddlers along, there’s no need to tow a tent either: stays at this park, a 15-minute drive from the North York Moors, are in chic shepherd’s huts set next to a peaceful coarse fishing lake. Each of the units looks out over miles’ worth of farmland, all the way up to the distant Hambleton Hills, and is named after the owners’ rescued sheep. They’re handcrafted to a high standard (the huts that is, not the sheep), with an ensuite bathroom including a shower and free Duck Island toiletries. There’s also a woodburning stove and a mini kitchen with a microwave, hot plate, kettle, toaster and cooking utensils. Sit down for food on the fold-down table using the hut’s fancy Emma Bridgewater crockery, then curl up in the sheepskin-covered armchair to watch a DVD on the TV. When it’s naptime, get cosy in the double bed or single bunk with the Bronte by Moon blankets and cushions. Weather looking good? Take a board game from the accommodation outside to play on your private patio, which has a firepit, barbecue, seating, a herb garden and a strawberry planter. If there’s anything else you need to pick up to make your evening go with a swing, check out the luxury goodies from Yorkshire at the site’s small shop.

Flopsy 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked: View from the hut overlooking farm fields. Outside patio area- fire pit, BBQ, table and chairs provided. The site shop. Location- close to several towns but out of the way enough to enjoy the quiet.

Disliked: Hut was a bit cramped, but there were 2 adults and a rottweiler, so we do expect it.

Flopsy 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked: We had a lovely stay at morndyke, the weather was really mild too for the time of year which meant we were able to enjoy the fire pit outside on an evening, the setting is really beautiful and we saw lots of wildlife from the window of our hut, accessing Morndyke was really easy thanks to Tricia’s helpful tips sent via email before our stay, the hut had absolutely everything we needed for our stay and was spotlessly clean! We felt so welcome with our dog too which is always a great bonus, we also visited the dog & gun in Knayton for a meal with our dog which was one of Tricia’s recommendations and it was delicious

Flopsy 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked: The accommodation was cosy and unique and everything was amazing quality in the hut. Peaceful remote location with a beautiful Indian restaurant within walking distance, less than a mile away. Surrounding towns/villages were beautiful and plenty to explore.
