General

  • In North Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of Slingsby
  • Clean and up to date amenities

Set in North Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of the village of Slingsby, Robin Hood Caravan and Camping Park is a pretty, family-run site with a good range of amenities, six miles east of Malton and close to the North York Moors.

    Disliked:

Difficult to find! I'm sure I will have missed instructions in the emails somewhere but satnav takes you along a back lane which eventually turns into a farmer's track. Best access for touring pitches turned out to be from the main road. Covid meant no welcome as such but good instructions sent out in advance.

From the manager...

Many thanks for your taking the time to review the park for us - it's great to hear that you enjoyed your time with us. For future reference, directions (including a warning not to use a satnav) are available from the PitchUp website and in the details we sent to you prior to arrival. At least you know where we are for next time :-)

We look forward to seeing you again,

The greeting at reception, facilities toilets and showers, level pitch and even flat ground cut very short were all great.

the road noise was surprisingly loud, so maybe the hedging that is further into the site could be replicated at the road side.

Slingsby village lovely pub and local shop

    Disliked:

If you are in a tent all your services are a long walk from the pitch eg. Toilet block, chemical toilet disposal and washing up facilities. Tent pitches are the furthest away from all these facilities if you are in a touring caravan or static you will be fine. Tents very close to each other. Never saw any owners during our 3 night stay. Been to much better sites with better facilities for campers and very Covid safe with sanitizer outside toilets and regular cleaning and friendly owners. Will not be returning to this site. Haven’t even seen owners respond to any reviews just happy to take your money.

From the manager...

Many thanks for your comments. Whilst we do appreciate that, for some, when pitched at the furthest point from the facilities, the 3-4 minute walk from the tents to the toilet block can seem quite a long way, which is why we do allow campers to choose where they would like to pitch in an open area so you can pitch closer if you'd like.

Contrary to your review response claims, we do read every comment and respond as quickly as we can especially to those that cause us any confusion as yours has done. For example, you spoke, in person, with one of our managers not too long after your arrival - to complete our check-in process, reception/shop was open mornings and afternoons for the duration of your stay, there is 24 hour on-call phone number available if you needed to speak to us outside our usual opening times, we live on the park and we regularly patrol the camping area to ensure that all our terms and conditions regarding quiet times/no fires are being adhered to so it's odd that you claim not to have seen a member of staff.

We also have an email written by yourself agreeing to our terms, conditions and the new policies we have in place during the coronavirus pandemic which include always carrying your own hand sanitiser since we only have supplies in areas that are safe and secure. There is plenty of soap and hot water in the toilet blocks and the doors have been kept open to reduce the number of touch points in our facilities.

Kind regards,
Beki and Damian

Had a fabulous 3 days on this beautiful site.
    Pitches very good size.
We just about had 3 days and nights of torrential rain and the site remained well drained.
    Toilet block immaculate.
Visited Castle Howard and The Grapes pub in Slingsby.
Really lovely scenic walks from the site to the next village of Hovingham on a disused railway track - a very safe 2 mile walk. Excellent for dogs, small children and cyclists.
Good village shop and Farm shop for superb homemade cakes.
We absolutely loved our stay and will be back.

    Disliked:

    Nothing.

Local attractions

This is an excellent base from which to explore the lush landscapes of Yorkshire, from the Wolds to the Moors; it’s also easy to get to the Yorkshire coastline and the resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby, all with lots to see and do.

For ramblers and cyclists, the Cleveland Way and Wolds Way both pass nearby, and there's diverse territory to explore, from wild moorland to dense forest, with plenty of lovely villages (and excellent pubs) in between.

Harry Potter fans and locomotive lovers can have a trip aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which chuffs its way across 18 miles of scenery and includes a stop at Goathland, the terminus for the Hogwarts Express.

A 15-mile drive away is the ancient city of York, where visitors can walk around the city walls, be humbled by the majesty of the Minster, or take in one of the myriad museums and attractions.

The National Railway Museum and Castle Museum are both highly recommended, and bloodthirsty bairns will enjoy York Dungeons and the growling Vikings in the reconstructions at the brilliant Jorvik Viking Centre. The streets are jampacked with tearooms, restaurants, bars and interesting independent shops: try Stonegate, Swinegate and the medieval Shambles for the best of the shopping.

Castle Howard is very close by: take in the 18th-century architecture and interiors, roam around the gardens, woods and lakes, and keep the kids amused with a boat trip or a romp around the adventure playground. The packed events programme includes regular arts, crafts and produce markets, concerts and themed weekends.

Also nearby are the Eden Camp World War II museum, Flamingoland adventure park and zoo, Dalby Forest and the treetop adventures of Go Ape.
