Lovely campsite in a fantastic location. The village was a nice little walk away with a fab pub serving fresh pizza and good beer on tap.

The site was maintained to a great standard. The toilet and washing facilities were spotless whenever I went into them and there was generally always staff about keeping the site looking tidy who were all very pleasant.

The serviced pitches were great, with everything you’d expect making it an effortless stay.

The site also gave us a very generous late check out of tea time. Which, again, made for a very pleasant stay.

    Disliked:

I’d not class as a dislike per say, but the site shop didn’t appear to be open at any point during my visit and I did pop over a handful of times. It’s not a major issue, the local village that had a shop was a couple minutes drive away, but I’d maybe suggest the owners pop a sign in the door to say when they’ll be manning the shop or a number to call if it’s more of an ad-hoc type of arrangement.

Very quiet well kept site. Pitches were a good size and fully serviced.
Facilities were clean. Staff on site were very friendly and helpful especially when we had trouble with electrics in the caravan. It was no trouble also to find out when we could obtain a replacement gas bottle. Greatly appreciated thanks.
It was also handy to know the pitch number before we arrived, this made for a quick set up of caravan.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately being September the shop was not fully stocked with cold items.
Beware wi-fi can be a bit hit or miss

Local attractions

This is an excellent base from which to explore the lush landscapes of Yorkshire, from the Wolds to the Moors; it’s also easy to get to the Yorkshire coastline and the resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby, all with lots to see and do.

For ramblers and cyclists, the Cleveland Way and Wolds Way both pass nearby, and there's diverse territory to explore, from wild moorland to dense forest, with plenty of lovely villages (and excellent pubs) in between.

Harry Potter fans and locomotive lovers can have a trip aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which chuffs its way across 18 miles of scenery and includes a stop at Goathland, the terminus for the Hogwarts Express.

A 15-mile drive away is the ancient city of York, where visitors can walk around the city walls, be humbled by the majesty of the Minster, or take in one of the myriad museums and attractions.

The National Railway Museum and Castle Museum are both highly recommended, and bloodthirsty bairns will enjoy York Dungeons and the growling Vikings in the reconstructions at the brilliant Jorvik Viking Centre. The streets are jampacked with tearooms, restaurants, bars and interesting independent shops: try Stonegate, Swinegate and the medieval Shambles for the best of the shopping.

Castle Howard is very close by: take in the 18th-century architecture and interiors, roam around the gardens, woods and lakes, and keep the kids amused with a boat trip or a romp around the adventure playground. The packed events programme includes regular arts, crafts and produce markets, concerts and themed weekends.

Also nearby are the Eden Camp World War II museum, Flamingoland adventure park and zoo, Dalby Forest and the treetop adventures of Go Ape.
