Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

What customers say

This campsite offers spacious, flat pitches in a beautiful riverside location, a short walk from Settle. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, along with the clean toilet and shower facilities. Many enjoy the ability to choose their own pitch, with options by the river or in larger fields. While the site is generally peaceful, some visitors mention occasional noise from other campers. Toilet and shower facilities can become busy during peak times, and while portaloos are available, some guests found them less clean than the main block. The site is well-regarded for its location and value.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Great site in a perfect location. We stayed next to the river and sound of the water was so therapeutic. Settle is a short walk away with plenty to do. Some great more challenging walks nearby too.

Disliked Main toilet block can be a bit of a walk away if you don't want to use portaloos (which got very smelly very quickly)

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Location - 15-20 min into town and near many good walks.
Hot shower.
It could be a great site if they marked up some pitches and added some more facilities.
Check in was easy and owner was friendly enough

Disliked We booked this campsite hoping for a peaceful weekend in the countryside. What we got was apparently an audition for Lord of the Flies: The Camping Edition.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that site rules were more of a gentle suggestion than anything actually enforced. We nearly turned around at the entrance after being greeted by a very large group who had created what looked like a traveler's camp who seemed to have mistaken the campsite for a music festival. Loud music blasted across the site while their kids on electric bikes zipped around in every direction, creating all the tranquility of a supermarket car park on Christmas Eve.

Dogs were another adventure. Many were allowed off their leads and wandered freely between pitches, often interrupting campers who were simply trying to eat or relax. On several occasions, small children were walking dogs off leash right up to other campers and their tethered dogs who were clearly stressed.

The toilet facilities were also somewhat optimistic for the number of people on site. The men's block had just two seated toilets. To be fair, they were reasonably clean on Friday, but by Sunday they looked as though they'd been through a particularly difficult weekend.

The lack of supervision of children was equally impressive. Some parents appeared to embrace a free-range approach, allowing their children to roam wherever they pleased. We witnessed two children run straight into another camper's van, only for their mother to respond by loudly abusing the van owners. Not content with that, she later stopped while driving off the site to verbally abuse the campers whose van her children had invaded some more. A memorable farewell, if nothing else. Credit to those who were on the receiving end as we wouldn't have been so calm.

Overall, the campsite seemed to suffer from a complete lack of management and rule enforcement. If you're looking for peace, quiet, and consideration from fellow campers, you may want to keep looking. If, however, you're after loud music, roaming dogs, unsupervised children, and a healthy dose of chaos, you'll feel right at home. Sadly, we won't be returning.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely views, site a short walk from settle

Disliked Think we landed on a bad weekend, the field was packed, a group of around 40 then arrived and created a compound of sorts, children running everywhere, dogs off lead running around, running up to campers and other dogs that were tired up making it difficult for owners abiding the rules to manage trying to eat their food, a smell of weed in the air, children running in other people's tents and parents becoming abusive when asked to remove their child, toilets blocked , as really as you can see it is a lovely site

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Great site close to settle town centre and lovely walks
Owner helpful and on hand , spacious campsite and in a quiet area , lots of shade if required under trees . Would stay again.

Disliked Unfortunately lots of dogs running around untethered (we brought our dog but he was tethered at all times on a long line ) unruly children allowing their dogs upto and into anyone else’s tent / awning and upto others dogs . Can’t pick your fellow camp mates but to the ones who abided by the rules of keeping dogs on leads it was made a bit stressful .

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
