Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

What customers say

A friendly, spacious campsite with a lovely location, great for exploring Settle and walks. Praised for clean facilities, helpful staff, and relaxed vibe. Some found facilities limited when busy, grass long, and occasional noise.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Nice big open field, lots of space for kids to play. Handy for access to Settle and Pen Y Ghent.

Disliked Facilities were quite grubby, two toilets and two showers in the ladies in the main block and then a couple of portaloos dotted around the field, which were full by our second day. Ladies toilets were locked from Saturday afternoon til Sunday morning- to be fair- as soon as we contacted the owner on Sunday morning he came and opened it but it makes you question how much attention is paid to facilities that staff didn't notice it was locked for all that time...

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Being able to camp by a river

Disliked When we arrived, we were met by a drunk resident caravaner who was covering the entrance. This instantly made me feel uncomfortable.

Toilet facilities were filthy no toilet paper the whole stay and there was dirt all over walls, sinks and showers, female showers were cold.

Chemical toilets in each camping fields were in usable we arrived on Sunday and they were full with human waste all over them.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The location is fantastic and we managed to get a pitch just near the stream which was great.

The guys who own the campsite were very welcoming.

Disliked Lack of toilets and it was still noisy at around 11.30pm from other campers. It was busy though as it was bank holiday. Overflowing bins near to where people are camping.

The next Morning there was no hand soap in the ladies.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Nice location, found a nice spot eventually, parked next to the track initially but then moved as loads of lazy folk driving to and from toilet block

Disliked Only 2 men’s showers for the whole campsite, nowhere near enough. We actually wanted showers but didn’t want to que for ages so we went without. All the bins and skips were full and overflowing with rubbish. Loads of people driving to the toilet block, this shouldn’t be allowed, make them walk! Expensive for a basic site

Primitive grass campsite

Liked It was a very relaxed site and location was excellent

Disliked This certainly isn't a £30 a night campsite .
The toilets/showers were dirty and just not enough of them for a busy site like that.
They did have portaloos on the fields but they were just stinky and awful .
On the field itself . We were on the back field which was too narrow for two rows of tents, the cars came down the middle and in my experience too close to the tents. it only took a child to run out of a tent .
At the bottom of the field was 2 skips full of rubbish overflowing for the full two night stay . It stank and was full of wasps .
The field has been mowed to a certain extent but all the grass just left .
Very very disappointed.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Big open fields with plenty of space and soft level grass. Nearby to Settle with plenty of pubs, shops etc. and close to walking trails. Right by the river

Disliked Probably fine normally but went bank holiday weekend and there were 2 mens showers + 2 toilet cubicles, same for women and 2 washing up sinks for probably upwards of 200 people. 3 fields completely full so they had clearly just sold as many pitches as there were space for which the facilities are not really able to support. They dotted a few portaloos around the fields which was ok but not really what we expected when booking

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location is nice, but camp site is not good at all.

Disliked The facilities are not enough for that big area.2 toilets and 2 showers. I stayed on the camp site on bank holiday, and as expected it was busy. But I am not sure if the facilities are enough even for normal days.

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
