Moss Hagg Farm Campsite: Lovely evenings

General

  • Small and friendly farm site three miles outside historic Selby
  • Within easy driving distance of Leeds, York and the Yorkshire Dales
  • Woodland walks and bike rides from the site

While holing up in the countryside, it’s only natural that one might every now and then fancy sipping on a pint down at the local village pub. If you’re partial to such pursuits, it's handy that a good inn down the road from Moss Hagg Farm Campsite serves real ales alongside a menu of pub food.

As well being close to the local pub and a simple drive to historic Yorkshire hotspots like Bolton Abbey, Carlton Towers, Nostell Priory, Harewood House and Castle Howard, access to York’s handsome historic core and the Yorkshire Dales is easy from here too. The award-winning beaches at Hornsea, Withernsea and Scarborough are an hour and 15 minutes' drive away.

Moss Hagg is a small and friendly farm site three miles from the North Yorkshire town of Selby and its shops, inns, medieval abbey and 15th-century gatehouse. If you’re more of a wildlife-watching sort, you may like to note that the forested area from which the farm takes its name is a nature haven, and is also a pretty spot for a shaded stroll or a woodland bike ride.

The pitches look out across open country fields, and facilities on site include drinking water taps, showers and toilets. Firepits are available: only wood purchased on site to be used in these, please.

Please note

A charge of £1.00 applies for the use of the shower.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Electricity is metered on site at £0.18 per kWh and must be paid at check-out.

    Great, quiet friendly site.
This is our second visit to Moss Hagg Farm. The owners are always pleasant and helpful.
Was gutted we forgot or fire Pit and they don't rent them anymore. But that was down to my lack of preparation.
The facilities are basic and all coin operated, So take some change. But that doesn't mean they aren't adequate with good hot water and they are very clean.
We love coming here to this quiet little farm.

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike at all really.

    Flat wide clean pitches.
    The friendliness to dogs.

    Disliked:

Paying for an electric hook up to then be charged again on arrival for the electric at £5 per night.
Having to crawl through a copse of small scratchy trees to get to my electric point and my water supply
Poor to none lighting in the ladies.

From the manager...

It is very clear on the booking website that electric is paid for separately.
The electric is very accessible with a clearly cut path.
The lighting on the site is automatically controlled based on lighting levels, so we do not understand your problem.

Clean. Great large pitches. Easy to get to and pitch was very easy to park in. Large safe field for children to play. Very healthful and pleasant owners. All facilities were very nice.

    Disliked:

No play area which was advertised. No transport links at all, couldn’t even walk anywhere as no footpaths. Very small showers with poor water flow. Need cash for electric showers and washing up hot water.

From the manager...

The centre of the camping field is kept clear for children to play in, this is the play area.
Showers are normal size, so we are not sure why you think they are small.
Showers cost £1 for 5 minutes and the washing up is 20p for a full bowl of hot water, with the cost of electric I think that is reasonable.

Local attractions

Settled on the outskirts of Selby, the farm is just about equidistant between the Yorkshire cities of Leeds and York, both of which have their own vibe. For history, handsome architecture and a bygone feel, head to York; for shopping centres, nightlife and street food cuisine, speed to lovely Leeds.

Out of the urban centres, Moss Hagg Farm Campsite is also well placed for day trips to the Yorkshire coast and its award-winning beaches at Hornsea, Withernsea and Scarborough. A little closer to home inland, the Yorkshire Dales are a cinch to reach too.

If you’ve got kids in tow, attractions like York Dungeon, the National Railway Museum and Chocolate Story in York should keep them (and you) more than amused; if instead you’re heading into Leeds, the meerkats, butterfly house and reptile enclosures at Tropical World are sure to be smash hits.
