  • Family-run site on a hill farm on the outskirts of Scarborough
  • Under 10 minutes’ drive from the town’s beaches, castle and theatre
  • Tea room and farm shop on site; valley and distant sea views
Get those bags packed pronto, because how could you possibly resist a stay on a scenic hill farm on the outskirts of Scarborough? Wild Camping at Stepney Stays places you less than 10 minutes’ drive from the town’s two sandy beaches, as well as its medieval castle and open-air theatre. Surrounded by woodlands, the site also has views over a green valley and, in the distance, Scarborough and the sea. The farm has been loved and cared for by the Tyson family since 1966. It’s a warm, professional setting – they’ve been hosting events and weddings for some time too – that uses traditional farm practices to raise Easycare sheep, Hereford cattle and Saddleback pigs. Fields with grazing sheep form your surroundings here – and, fittingly for the farm setting, there's a tea room and a farm shop right on site. On clear nights, try a spot of stargazing. But don’t stay up too late, as you'll surely want to explore the North Yorkshire coast from this handy base. Follow the Cleveland Way in either direction along the coast from Scarborough or head north to Whitby, around 40 minutes’ drive away. Southwards (20 minutes by car) is Filey, with white chalk cliffs and RSPB Bempton Cliffs about 10–15 minutes further on. This is also a prime spot for walking or cycling in the North York Moors, with the national park just over two miles away from the farm. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in Scarborough for meals or drinks out. Back on site, a picnic bench and barbecue area are at the side of the property for those who’d prefer to eat alfresco. Parking is in the car park, a short walk away, and the team is always on hand to help with anything you may need.

Non-electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked Exactly as it was advertised. Lovely and picturesque . Nice touch with the changing room facilities. Ideal location for got into the town.

Disliked Absolutely not a problem for us but music from the barn late at night might have interrupted other’s peace. (We only assume it was from the function barn)
Sat nav took us to the large commercial site over the road- again no problem but a mention on the directions may avoid this.
A little pricey for the facilities on offer but again, appreciate the farm needs to make money.
Not really dislikes to be honest, just observations.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review and for choosing to stay with us. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the beautiful setting, our location, and the changing room facilities.

We also really appreciate you taking the time to share your observations. We’ll certainly look at improving our directions to help guests avoid being sent to the campsite across the road by their sat nav.

Regarding the music from the barn, we do often hold functions during the weekends in the summer months and we will ensure our guests are more aware of this. Unfortunately, this is something we aren’t able to control, but we do ensure that all music finishes by midnight. We appreciate your understanding and are grateful that it didn’t impact your stay.

Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback. As a newly opened campsite, comments like yours are incredibly valuable and help us improve. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Ideal if you want something very peaceful and it’s only 10 minutes from Scarborough we went to James Arthur concert and came back and everything is was fine still in place . From the manager: Thank you so much Dianne for your wonderful review! We’re so pleased to hear you enjoyed the peace and quiet, our location, the food from the butchers, and that you found everything clean and welcoming. It’s great to know you had a lovely stay after the James Arthur concert and made the most of the barbecue and fire pit too.

Thank you also for mentioning the track down to the campsite. As we’re a wild camping site, the access road is a little bumpy in places, but we hope the peaceful setting and countryside views make it worthwhile. We really appreciate your understanding.

It means a lot to hear that you’d definitely stay with us again. We look forward to welcoming you back for another relaxing visit!
