Sunset over robin hood's bay

  • Dog-friendly farm site one mile from Robin Hood's Bay
  • Walking distance from the beach, village and the Cleveland Way
  • Horses welcome; shops and restaurants nearby
Robin Hood’s Bay was once the stomping ground of smugglers, but you’ll be the new sharks about this place… you see, Farsyde Farm is only one mile from the beach and village, so you’ll be well-based for hunting down rockpools, ancient fossils and cobbled streets chock-full with independent shops, pubs and fish and chip shops. Plus, you’ll get to freestyle right onto the Cinder Track or Cleveland Way, as both trails are 10 minutes' walk away. More on that new den of yours… the peaceful Farsyde Farm is surrounded by the coast and countryside, and the large field spies over the grand Ravenscar cliffs, the countryside and the sea. When you’re not preoccupied with the views and splendid sunrises or sunsets, dark starry nights take over by night – just the thing after a day spent walking, mountain biking or following family trails locally. When it comes to getting your go-to snacks and meals, there’s no need to put the car into action either. The village and its well-stocked shops are 15 minutes’ walk away along the Cleveland Way. Of course, the beach might very well reel you in with its rockpools and fossils (just be sure to take care, especially with the kids). There are good facilities on site, including two flushing toilets, showers, a tap and a washing-up area. Those of you who have horses in your flock will be happy to find they’re welcome too, and guided rides are available. An added bonus is that this site is home to a flock of adorable Valais Blacknose sheep and a small herd of alpacas.

What customers say

This campsite offers spectacular sea views and a peaceful, rural atmosphere, being a short walk from Robin Hood's Bay. Guests praised the spacious pitches, clean and basic facilities, and the opportunity to see various farm animals. Some noted the shower and washing facilities are rustic and can be basic, with occasional charges. While many appreciated the tranquil environment, some mentioned animal noises early in the morning and strict site rules. The location is considered ideal for walking and exploring the coastline.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location. Toilets are always stocked with loo rolls and hand soap and blue roll is left out by the basin. Ample space is given between pitch’s and it’s a quiet camp site.

Disliked No dislikes.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fantastic views & setting
Facilities are basic but all that you need

Disliked Just read the other reviews. The host is hostile & rude which spoilt our stay. We left after 1 night and went to a site nearby (middlewood farm) instead who were fantastic, friendly & accommodating.

I feel so sorry for whoever takes over this site when it fails, as they will have hundreds of terrible reviews to undo.

From the manager: Claimed they had to leave after one night when they had only booked one night. Arrived after check in. On arrival they wanted to pitch extra tent which wasn't booked in. We were full had no availability for another tent. I wasn't rude but they didn't like not being able to put extra tents up. If they prefer Middlewood all well and good . It is incredibly frustrating when campers arrive late and then want to put up extra tents - you wouldn't go to a hotel and expect to be able to use extra rooms.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The location was out of the way, so very quiet and peaceful and not crowded at all. Facilities were basic and all that was needed for a simple comfortable stay. Surrounded by so many types of animals but none disturbed my sleep and added to a nature-type environment. 10 min walk into the village.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely location with flat pitch above Robin Hoods Bay

Disliked Very officious rules and regulations which were not welcoming which is strange as owners were very nice when you spoke to them.

What do you get for your money: nice pitch, 2 loos in a small wooden structure with corrugated roof, similar structure for shower which was difficult to control temperature, a pot hand wash sink which was broken on one side and a stainless outdoor sink with cold water for washing up. Personally I expected more for my £34 per night for 1 person and dog in a 2 man tent. Shame as this place has so much potential!

Local attractions

So, where to get walking to? You’ll be going off-road on the 22-mile Cinder Track (10 minutes' walk). Depending on which way you go, Scarborough or Whitby could be your end destination… with the latter, you’ll be on track for the gothic-style Whitby Abbey (15 minutes' drive), and spooky it is, as the 13th-century abbey was the inspiration for the Dracula novel. The Cleveland Way (10 minutes' walk) is another cycling or walking route pretty much on your doorstep. It passes through Scarborough and Whitby too, as well the North York Moors and Saltburn-by-the-Sea – there are 109 miles, so you may want to be choosy about which section you go for. When you’re ready to rest your feet, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (25 minutes' drive) is right and ready for a steam railway trip, perhaps on one of the historic Pullman carriages. As for those of you who aren’t ready for the action-packed activities to end just yet, there are the zipwires and treetop obstacles at Go Ape Dalby (45 minutes) or wakeboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking and an aqua park at North Yorkshire Water Park (45 minutes).
