General

  • Small North Yorkshire touring site on the edge of Pickering
  • Just outside the North York Moors; half an hour's drive from the coast
  • A 10-minute walk from town centre; bus stop nearby

Lakeside is a small site in a very handy North Yorkshire location, just off the A170 and less than a mile from the centre of Pickering. Such a setting also means that it’s easy to get out into the North York Moors National Park and Dalby Forest, a few minutes’ drive away, or over to the coast for a bit of splashing in the sea at Scarborough (half an hour away).

Leaving the car on site for a bit? No problem. You can walk into town in 10 minutes or so to hit the shops, pubs, takeaways, restaurants and the like, or hail a bus from the stop a couple of minutes’ walk away for outings further afield.

Facilities on site include waste disposal and recycling, plus a chemical waste facility and a caravan washing area. Dogs are welcome on site, as are barbecues and firepits; the friendly staff say they’re always happy to answer questions, dish out local advice or lend a hand to help guests with whatever they need.

It was a very clean and tidy site, lots of plants and trees. It was unfortunately a very wet site as we were there in October and there had been a lot of rain. But the guy was there to meet us and very helpful. The owners of the site are not on hand as they live 7 miles or so away. But they were very helpful regarding information and leaflets and advise about Pickering and the train station. We were there for 2 nights as we were booked on the steam train to Whitby. It is only a 15 minute walk from site so very convenient.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately the price being convenient is it is next to a main road through Pickering. We were woken at 5.45am with the start of the trafffic, on the second night by someone who thinks it fun to beep their horn when they pass. Possibly if you were further back on the site the noise would not have been so bad.

A great site. It is a relatively new site and the owners (Dave and Elaine) make it a great experience. They try to be there to welcome you personally when you arrive and explain everything. Coco, the four legged co-owner, is also on hand to welcome you.
It is a compact site (we were Dave's first experience of an 8.5 metre motorhome), but still well spaced.
Others have complained about traffic noise but we weren't disturbed.
Good site to visit North York Moors railway.
