General

  • On-site coarse and fly fishing
  • Two country pubs serving food within walking distance
  • Set over 55 acres of mature countryside

Are you looking to land a stay near water in North Yorkshire? And possibly land some slippery specimens too? Have a stay at Stonebridge Fishing Lakes near Northallerton, an angling site with coarse and fly fishing as well as many a fishy thing to buy in the site shop.

Not enthused by angling? Potter off around Stonebridge and its surrounds instead: the site is set over 55 acres of site countryside and has easy access to the A1 and the A19 from its setting in the village of Little Fencote. The North York Moors National Park is a few miles past nearby Northallerton.

Stonebridge has a washing machine, tumbler dryer, sink, communal fridge and power points for hairdryers and chargers for guests' use; a new toilet and shower block with separate ladies' and gents' facilities, a disabled toilet and a wetroom was added in 2017. The site shop sells bait, tackle and fresh maggots for that casting off, as well as charcoal and firelighters.

Two country pubs are within a short drive: the Black Horse, a mile and a half to the north and the Coore Arms just over a mile to the south. Both serve homemade, traditional pub food all day.

Please note that Stonebridge is a working fishery/farm and has equipment and machinery in designated areas. Prices are designed to reflect this.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Fishing is only included in the glamping rates. Charges apply if you are booking a camping pitch.

For barbecues and firepits: fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site. Please don't bring your own so they know what's being burnt.

We enjoyed our weekend ,the site is very basic but the owner who we spoke with was very friendly and helpful. The shower block is very good but maybe they could put a payed hairdryer in the ladies. I washed my hair and there was nowhere to dry it. Also it could do with a washing up area with hot water and a chemical slauce for toilet emptying .

A lovely quiet site with incredibly helpful staff. This was our first tryout for our new van and it was great in all respects! Barely off the A1 and could be anywhere! Maybe I shouldn't praise this site too much as I don't want it fully booked when we want to go back!

Peaceful site. Lovely lake. Good days out with plenty of driving. Local pub was a half hour or so walk. Site offered leaflets for attractions around the areas. Although we wouldn't stay here again (as touring places we want to visit) i am glad to of visited the area. If your wanting to do a fishing holiday the place is perfect as 1 lake open to public. 1 lake attached to what they call the glamping area and another 1 or 2 lakes which they are getting ready for more people to be able to fish. I did enjoy my time at the campsite but we used it for a base to sleep and spent most of our time off base.

    Disliked:

It's under a flight path for an army base. Not a lot of public transport in the area we found 1 bus stop which had about 3 buses on a daily route. Was not allowed to one lake as it was private area attached to the clamping side. Nothing to do for children.

Good sized pitches, plenty of room. Toilet block was excellent, almost brand new. Owners were friendly enough.

    Disliked:

No dog walk except around the fishing lake where you end up stepping around fishing tackle. If you are a walker there are no footpaths nearby ,you have to walk on the roads, thankfully there's very little traffic.

    Disliked:

The untidiness of the camp site. the lack of grey water disposal as it was with the waste water combined. The hot water is very hot in the showers and was not able to control the temperature to a more reasonable temperature. the bin were over flowing

Directions

From the A1 leave at Junction 51. If you're travelling south on the A1, turn left at the roundabout (travelling north on the A1, turn right at the first roundabout) and straight on at the next two roundabouts. At the next roundabout, take the first exit. Continue on this road for about 3/4 mile and you will see a left turn to Scruton. Follow the road into the village, past The Coore Arms and continue along this road all the way until you reach Stonebridge Fishing Lakes on the left.

Please note that satnav will direct you to Little Fencote village rather than to Stonebridge Fishing Lakes.

Local attractions

Nearby Northallerton and Richmond are both traditional market towns, with old centres alongside more modern buildings, cafés, shops, pubs and restaurants. Northallerton's market days are on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

From Northallerton, it's a few miles along the A694 to reach hikes, strolls, bike rides and other activities of the North York Moors National Park. The village of Osmotherley to the west of the national park is a good starting point for walkers as the 110-mile Cleveland Way runs through it; for something even more energetic, try the 40-mile Lyke Wake Walk, starting outside Osmotherley and cutting across the highest of the moors.

For a spot of history, trundle along the Wensleydale Railway's 22 miles of track between Northallerton West and Redmire, where six steam trains run every weekend.

Must see

  • Jervaulx Abbey (8.6 miles)
  • Richmond Castle (8.8 miles)
  • Easby Abbey (EH) (8.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Moulton Hall (7.2 miles)
  • Mount Grace Priory (10.2 miles)
