General
- Golfers' site with 18-hole and nine-hole courses
- Traditional Yorkshire pub on site serving food, local ales and wine
- Owned and run by the same family for over 35 years
Golf fans, Akebar Park near Leyburn in North Yorkshire will suit you down to a tee. For not only is there a challenging 18-hole golf course on site (with fetching views of Jubilee Beacon at its highest point), a par-three nine-hole course also sits here for those a bit more junior/beginner/just not up to par.
History fans, Akebar Park will suit you down to a tee too, as it's a mere few miles from some of North Yorkshire's history highlights – Richmond Castle and Revaulx and Jervaulx Abbeys are all within an easy drive – and the park is between the historic houses, museums and ancient landscapes of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales national parks.
Also sorted are nature fans – Akebar's in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; kids – there's a new children's play park on site; and dogs – a three-acre canine exercise area awaits.
Akebar Park has been run by the same family for over 35 years and has just been taken over in ownership and management by the family's latest generation, who have big plans for the site; there's already been an extensive renovation of the main shower and washroom facilities.
Also on site is the lovely looking stone-built Friar's Head pub and restaurant serving bar lunches and evening meals – beer garden, blazing log fire and Yorkshire ale fans, this will suit you down to a tee too.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

Local attractions
Explore abbeys, halls and castles, pick up local produce at farmers' markets, or take off into the countryside for days of hiking, biking and fishing: all are handy from Akebar Park.
Head to Helmsley and East Witton near Ripon for Revaulx and Jervaulx abbeys, both founded in the twelfth century by Cisterian monks and both among the wealthiest abbeys in the land until being dissolved by egotistical Henry 8.
Jervaulx Abbey was also the place where Wensleydale cheese originated way back in 1150; see how it's made and have a hefty sample at the Wensleydale Creamery and Visitor Centre near Hawes, then double back on your creamy trail to the Brymor ice-cream dairy near Jervaulx Abbey.
At Leyburn town, find more cheese and heaps of other tasty things at the farmers' market on the fourth Saturday of every month, and heaps of tasteful bits and pieces at its weekly Friday market, antiques centre and art and jewellery galleries. Leyburn's fitness and squash centre allows guests and also has a pool.
On the outskirts of town, permit the kids a day out among the chambers, tunnels and many hidden surprises at fabulously odd The Forbidden Corner in Tupgill Park.
