  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities
Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite. This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land. Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked We were looking for a remote site without bars and restaurants and play parks.
We stayed here Wenesday to Saturday, on arrival we called Andy who showed us to a pitch in Field B, we are first time campers so set the tent up in around 30 minutes.
There was myself, wife and two dogs. Once we had set up we had a little wander around. There are toilets and showers and Andy has a freezer in his garage you can use for ice blocks. Andy came along and had a chat he is a lovely guy and will do anything to help should you need it. The toilets were clean and immaculate, take no notice of the negative views, if people cant use a toilet brush after they have been to the toilet then I wouldnt like to think what their homes are like. Andy cant clean the toliet each time somebody has been, he is a busy guy, it takes 2 minutes to clean up after yourself.
The shower costs £1 and was instantly hot, the £1 lasts 5 minutes which was by far long enough to get showered again these were clean and tidy.
I saw negative reviews about no hot water for washing pots, there are 2 big stainless steel sinks to wash pots in, take your washing up bowl into the toilets and you get hot water through the hand wash units or boil your kettle 😃
There were other tents in the field but there was plenty of space, we put windbreaks around the front of our tent so the dogs had somewhere to roam.
Use of BBQs are allowed
Kirbymoorside is a 10 minute drive and Pickering 15 minutes. We also had a drive to Helmsley.
The site on a night was quiet apart from my wife's snoring 🤣🤣 people had respect.
If you are looking for a basic site with electric hook up, clean toilets and showers in the middle of nowhere then this is the site for you, we will 100% be returning.

Disliked Nothing, the site had everything we wanted for a basic first time camping trip.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Everything. I had an amazing time from the minute we were welcomed and given a choice of pitch by the very friendly owner. Nothing was too much trouble he was so friendly. The setting was glorious. Fields as far as the eye can see. We wanted back to nature and this is what we got. Cows, sheep, green fields, and peace as the site was well back from the road. The location was perfect in easy driving distance to Helmsley, Pickering Flamingo Land and more. I had such a relaxing time and will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Everything, the owner was so friendly came and spoke to us every day and asked us if we had a good day and was very informative especially regarding the showers.

The views were amazing (owner did have a chuckle when he came over he said he was worried about the ‘dust’ from the combine getting into the tent but this was fine as I grew up on a farm and the 4 year old me was jumping up and down, I’m now 35!) he even wished me a happy birthday!

Highly recommend this campsite will definitely be going back in the future. Will be talking about this holiday for months to come!
