  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities
Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite. This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land. Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Very pleasant stay thank you. Very peaceful area. It was very handy for the places we were visiting which is why we chose it.

Disliked Shower rooms should have been cleaned daily. We were there 5 days and sinks quite dirty by the time we left. Then our shower block was locked and we had to share with the other field, the toilet was dirty and very smelly. I suggest that they are cleaned daily in future .

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Site was peaceful and well laid out

Disliked Toilets needed a thorough clean and toilet duck or similar used.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Toilets are cleaned twice daily by me.
Unfortunately they are as clean as the last person to use them. Small children are not always supervised and can be quite messy although so can some adults.

Overpriced for what it is.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The area was peaceful the only noise you heard at night was the owls in the trees.

Disliked The owner had three big fields however decided to cram 5 extra large tents onto one field making it feel cramped. There was no WiFi even though the booking page specified. No where to walk if that's what your looking for as the lane that takes you to the campsite is off a fairly busy road. The owner doesn't really help if there are any issues gets really snappy. No hot water and you have to pay to use the shower everytime and the temperature is so unpredictable i wouldnt let kids shower as it goes from scolding hot to freezing cold (£1 for 5 mins then 20p for every minuet after so make sure you read the small print) dont really rely on the electrics as they will short circuit often.

From the manager: Are you sure you are not mistaking my site for some other because all of your comments are totally ridiculous and misleading
Words fail me as to how you can make these comments as they do not represent my site
I rely on customers using their judgement after reading my many glowing reviews from genuine campers

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked A lovely site, with different camping areas, making it feel small and secluded. Not too busy whilst we were there. The toilet and shower blocks (portacabins) were clean and useable.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Gorgeous spot - we saw (and heard!) lots of wildlife and the stargazing was amazing, we were lucky it was really clear. Close to Pickering and Helmsley which we visited, lovely towns. The owner was really friendly and sorted us with a fire pit at the last minute on Friday evening - and swapped a note for us for some £1 coins for the shower! We loved our stay here, two nights on a weekend is just never enough time!
