General

  • Small quiet family-run site with many walks all around
  • Two miles from Ribblehead and its viaduct
  • Cooked breakfasts, packed lunches and homemade cake all for sale

Philpin Farm is a small quiet site set on a family-run hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales, between Ingleborough and Whernside 2 of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, five miles from the nearest village of Ingleton and two miles from Ribblehead Station and viaduct on the famed Settle to Carlisle Railway.

This is walking country: many walks are available straight from the site, from easy strolls to climbing the three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside or Penyghent). Rock climbing and caving is also around nearby

The site is small and two-tiered, with accommodation areas at the bottom and top of a small hill (the car park is adjacent to the top area as no cars are allowed on the camping field). A new shower and loo block with washing-up facilities was added for the 2016 season.

The farm barn is available to eat and mingle in, and has a snack bar open in it at weekends; also available to buy on site are cooked breakfasts, packed lunches and homemade cakes - just ask when you arrive - as well as socks, gloves, hats and rain ponchos if you've come a tad unprepared.

Barbecues are allowed on site if raised off the ground (strictly no fires please). The farm has a strict no-noise policy at night, so settle down here if you want a peaceful stay.

A pub is about 500 metres from the site and another is at Ribblehead two miles away.

Please note that as it's a secluded site, Philpin Farm has limited mobile reception and no wifi.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Actually I was travelling with my son, but there is no category for a father and son combo! The camping field is west-facing and has an upper terrace where everyone pitched. The field is attractive and well-tended. The toilet, shower and washing up facilities are all fresh and clean and the free electric showers give a good flow of hot water. Washing up liquid is provided, which makes a nice change!
There is a barn with tables and chairs for comfort if it rains or if you want to read after dark, with a freezer for ice packs and some sockets for recharging phones. No mobile signal on EE/BT at the site; don't know about others.
The owner was really helpful when our trangia failed and also sold us some eggs, bread and milk - NB. there are no shops in Chapel-le-dale, Horton or Ribblehead.

The cost per person is very reasonable and we wouldn't hesitate to stay at Philpin Farm again; it is a great base for doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks. We stayed two nights and did one peak each day over three days. The farm is an easy 2 mile walk from Ribblehead Station and is right on the trail between Whernside and Ingleborough.

I didn't use the option but you could order packed lunches from the farm house
