Golden Square Touring and Camping Park: Fantastic site

General

  • Scenic spacious site on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors National Park
  • Two playgrounds, indoor play area, bike hire and pitch and putt
  • Award-winning amenities, licensed shop, and homemade cakes for sale

Families, couples and even the family dog, get ready to strike gold. Popular Golden Square Touring and Camping Park on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is an absolute gem of a site – safe, scenic, spacious, well-maintained and with enough to do to keep guests of all sizes busy for days.

Once the kids are persuaded to leave the two outdoor playgrounds, indoor play area, pitch and putt and football field, countryside walks and trails start direct from the park; seaside frolics at Scarborough and surrounds are an hour away, and a sports centre with indoor pool is five minutes’ drive down the road. Those who prefer to take to two wheels can hire bikes on site and ask the Golden Square owners for info on the best cycling and mountain bike trails in the area; there be loads.

Away from the hum of activities, Golden Square has glittering little touches all over: two luxury stonebuilt and heated toilet and shower blocks – winner of the local Loo of the Year accolade – as well as two disabled/family bathrooms. An on-site licensed shop sells caravan accessories, toys, games, groceries and essentials like bread and milk (it sells daily newspapers and homemade cakes too; a golden opp for stretching out in the sun, perhaps…).

Pitches are warm, sheltered and kept secluded by specially planted trees, hedges and shrubs; the park has also been designed on three levels so that even in the height of the summer season it doesn’t feel crowded.

And as it’s North Yorkshire, the views at Golden Square are gold-standard too: moorland, forest and farm stretching all around and into the Yorkshire moors.

The camping area was very well kept.
    Kids loved the park.
Well stocked shop and reasonably priced!

    Disliked:

Considering this is a 5 star site, the facilities were disgusting!
Toilets never seemed to be cleaned and there wasn't any soap the whole time we were there.
The main showers were dirty and the family room was vile with a ridiculously hot shower, the kids couldn't even get under it!
Bin area was overflowing with bags upon bags of rubbish.
    Drinking water was warm.
Member of staff at check in was abrupt and disinterested, not a nice welcome!

Really clean showers and toilets. Pot washing areas were also spotless and cleaned regularly. Pitches were very spacious and well planned with drinking water taps readily available. Hedge rows all planted thoughtfully to block out noise and wind. 2 play areas to choose between. Laundry facilities were reasonably priced. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. Shop was open 9-7 and had a range of reasonably priced food and snacks. Also, Helmsley was a short 6 minute drive for Co-op and lots of gift shops and outdoor shops. We haven’t been camping as a family before so a fantastic first time for us with kids. Dog was also very well looked after with dog shower when he got really hot to cool him down. Lots of lovely woodland walks and a dog field to exercise dogs. Highly recommend this site!
