General

  • Scenic spacious site on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors National Park
  • Two playgrounds, indoor play area, bike hire and pitch and putt
  • Award-winning amenities, licensed shop, and homemade cakes for sale

Families, couples and even the family dog, get ready to strike gold. Popular Golden Square Touring and Camping Park on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is an absolute gem of a site – safe, scenic, spacious, well-maintained and with enough to do to keep guests of all sizes busy for days.

Once the kids are persuaded to leave the two outdoor playgrounds, indoor play area, pitch and putt and football field, countryside walks and trails start direct from the park; seaside frolics at Scarborough and surrounds are an hour away, and a sports centre with indoor pool is five minutes’ drive down the road. Those who prefer to take to two wheels can hire bikes on site and ask the Golden Square owners for info on the best cycling and mountain bike trails in the area; there be loads.

Away from the hum of activities, Golden Square has glittering little touches all over: two luxury stonebuilt and heated toilet and shower blocks – winner of the local Loo of the Year accolade – as well as two disabled/family bathrooms. An on-site licensed shop sells caravan accessories, toys, games, groceries and essentials like bread and milk (it sells daily newspapers and homemade cakes too; a golden opp for stretching out in the sun, perhaps…).

Pitches are warm, sheltered and kept secluded by specially planted trees, hedges and shrubs; the park has also been designed on three levels so that even in the height of the summer season it doesn’t feel crowded.

And as it’s North Yorkshire, the views at Golden Square are gold-standard too: moorland, forest and farm stretching all around and into the Yorkshire moors.

Excellent site, very welcoming and friendly staff, toilets and showers lovely and clean also has a bath so great to get the kids/babys clean, with plenty of sanitising places. We were very fortunate to get a pitch leading straight onto the park which was perfect for us, they have two excellent parks on site with a lovely woodland area to explore, a little shop with all the essential you will need. We had a lovely weekend here and can't wait to stay again would definitely recommend to anyone especially with children

Experience tarnished when we went out for the day and returned to find our windbreak and all its ropes, pegs and poles had been removed without a trace. When reported, the warden had a hunch as to where it might be and found it in a guests tent with no explanation from them. This should not be a bad reflection on the site but more about the fact that you cannot leave anything behind if you venture out. A sad reality.

We have spent 3 nights on the tent pitch, unfortunately we were booking very last minute, so there were no electrified pitches available any more, but this turned out to be no problem. Our aim was to spend a great family time just before school, and this was easily achieved!
We liked the company we met - our neighbours turned out to be an awesome companions and we spent a lot of lovely time together. We liked the fact that (despite almost all places taken) there was still enough room for some privacy, the pitches are decent size. The toilets and shop were very close, but not affecting our stay at all. There were no loud noises in the evenings/nights.
Toilets were clean. The warm water was always there and it was almost boiling.
We visited the Dolby Forest and the White Horse - both very nearby (convenient location).

But the best things were probably:
    - the big playground and the zip line... absolute winner!
    - the view... the view from the big playground was beautiful :)))

    Disliked:

The only things that we did not like, were:
    - we could not leave the campsite before 7am - at least that was stated at the barrier, and we desperately needed to get into the car to get children warm (it was 6 deg C!) plus drive to the town for some breakfast (yes, sadly little children don't respect our need for sleep!);
    - you need to pay additional money to get warm water in the bathtub... we simply showered, so it wasn't a problem, but if we needed a bath, we would struggle as: a) we had no coins and b) the instruction on the wall called for plugging and there was no plug nor socket to be found!
    - an additional shelf in the family bathroom would make bathing little children more comfortable ;)
    - pitches were we were staying were on a little slope ;) so we were sliding slightly, but it wasn't a big problem.
