  • Scenic spacious site on the edge of the North York Moors National Park
  • Two playgrounds, indoor play area, bike hire and pitch and putt
  • Award-winning amenities, licensed shop, and homemade cakes for sale
Families, couples and even the family dog, get ready to strike gold. Popular Golden Square Touring and Camping Park on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is an absolute gem of a site – safe, scenic, spacious, well-maintained and with enough to do to keep guests of all sizes busy for days. Once the kids are persuaded to leave the two outdoor playgrounds, indoor play area, pitch and putt and football field, countryside walks and trails start direct from the park; seaside frolics at Scarborough and surrounds are an hour away, and a sports centre with indoor pool is five minutes’ drive down the road. Those who prefer to take to two wheels can hire bikes on site and ask the Golden Square owners for info on the best cycling and mountain bike trails in the area; there be loads. Away from the hum of activities, Golden Square has glittering little touches all over: two luxury stonebuilt and heated toilet and shower blocks – previous winners of the local Loo of the Year accolade – as well as two disabled/family bathrooms. An on-site licensed shop sells caravan accessories, toys, games, groceries and essentials like bread and milk (it sells daily newspapers and homemade cakes too; a golden opportunity for afternoon relaxing in the sun, perhaps…). Pitches are warm, sheltered and kept secluded by specially planted trees, hedges and shrubs; the park has also been designed on three levels so that even in the height of the summer season it doesn’t feel crowded. And as it’s North Yorkshire, the views at Golden Square are gold-standard too: moorland, forest and farm stretching all around and into the Yorkshire moors.

What customers say

This is a very clean, well-maintained, and friendly campsite with excellent facilities including spotless toilets, showers, and washing-up areas. It is highly recommended for families, with two large play parks and a football pitch providing ample entertainment for children. The site offers spacious pitches, a well-stocked shop, and beautiful surroundings. Staff are consistently praised for their helpfulness and welcoming nature. Some minor issues include hard ground for pegs, occasional noise, and the remote location, but these are generally outweighed by the positive experiences.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Location was excellent and well signposted from Helmsley. The pitch sizes were really good, with electrical hook up close by that didn't trip at all during our stay. There were quite a few water stations around the site, so you didn't have to walk too far. Washing up facilities were fantastic, as was the laundry area. The toilets were fabulous, very clean and always stocked up with toilet paper. They even had fresh flowers in, which was a nice touch and the water was always hot. The shop pretty much had everything you may need, and the lovely touch of freshly baked cakes. There's a brilliant enclosed field to walk dogs, and lots of play areas for children. It also felt safe with the security barrier locked at night and the wardens doing regular patrols. We also found all the staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Disliked So a couple of things...
We had an ant infestation at our pitch which was number 58, we tried spraying to stop them but it didn't help. I suspect there was an ants nest close by. It's the summer and these things happen.
Our pitch was next to some steps leading to the elevated grass pitches, and it was very noisy with people walking back and forth to the toilet block, shop and washing facilities. We were woken up at 7am on a Sunday morning by a child bouncing a ball up and down the steps. A bit of consideration would have been nice, but not the campsites fault.
The family bathroom/disability bathroom needs some tlc, it's not as nice as the main toilets. Plus my wife had a few issues with no hot water in the sink. So she had to resort to the main ladies toilets, which was a bit tricky with a broken ankle trying to get up and down the steps. But she wanted hot water so she had to tough it out.
Lastly, there were a few children on bikes racing at speed down the decline which goes around the bend near our pitch. They were trying to do 'skids' and one nearly hit my wife because she couldn't move out of the way quick enough, and they couldn't see around the bend. So maybe a few signs around the site asking parents to stop their children doing that would be good, otherwise there will be accident at some point and someone will get hurt.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We had a fantastic stay at this campsite. The grounds were exceptionaly clean, well maintained and surrounded by lovely scenery. The pitches were really spacious and you had plenty of privacy, making it a peaceful place to relax. The facilities, including the showers and toilets, were spotless and we'll looked after and always plenty of hot water. The staff were welcoming and friendly always happy to help. It's the perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy nature while still having access to great amenities. We will definitely return and would highly recommend this campsite to families and couples alike.

Liked We had a fantastic stay! The site is clean, well-maintained, and the facilities were spotless throughout our visit.

The two kids’ play parks were a huge hit with our children and kept them entertained for hours. The padel courts are a great addition too and something a little different for both families and adults.

The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, always happy to help and made us feel right at home. We’d definitely recommend Golden Square Caravan Park to anyone looking for a relaxing, family-friendly getaway. We can’t wait to come back!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Every time we went in the bathroom it was spotless, despite there being about 100 people on site.

Playgrounds are great, for big, daredevil kids as well as for smaller ones.

Useful little shop with ice-creams, cold drinks, snacks and staples. Plus some toys.

The staff were so helpful when we were running late to arrive and then when our electric hookup cable was too short they gave us an extension (more on that in the dislikes though..)

Disliked We had to go without electric the first night (my fault for late arrival) because the hookup point was a full pitch away meaning that the cable had to pass across the grass verge along the edge of our pitch and then behind a van and across their verge to get to the socket.
The van in the middle was 100% off grid and kindly offered to switch with us but they had sleeping children in the car and I didn't want to disturb them.
The next morning I mentioned it to the staff in the shop and they grabbed an extension without any fuss so problem was solved easy peasy. Just something to keep in mind if you need a hook-up.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely park right next to the tent pitches for the children.

Disliked The grassed area at our pitch had sand and stones just under the top layer of grass which proved a nightmare for the pegs we had. We were also not able to use our tether and spike for our dog due to this.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Friendly greeting, helpful and knowledgable staff. I liked that the park is closed at 10pm which reduces noise and encourages kids to start settling down. I liked how close we were to the shower and toilet block.

Disliked Noticed that if you want to use the microwave there is a 10p charge
