  • Double ensuite log cabins in a peaceful garden outside Market Weighton
  • Next to the Wolds Way, half an hour's drive to York or the coast
  • Dog-friendly accommodation with private deck, TV and kitchenette
Long walks by day, excellent dinners in the evening, and then cosy nights of sleep… it’s a fine mix that’s on offer at Robeanne House, an East Yorkshire site just outside Market Weighton. The owners here reckon there are at least 35 restaurants to pick from within a five-mile radius – and you’ll have a barbecue back at base to add an extra option into the mix. Working up an appetite for whichever one you choose should be pretty easy, as the site is right next to the Wolds Way, with plenty more walking trails close by in the Yorkshire Wolds (which also provided some lovely scenery should you prefer to put your feet up on site…) Alternatively, there are lots more days out nearby, including trips eastwards to the coast, west to York or south to Hull. Getting to any of these shouldn’t take you longer than about half an hour in the car, and there’s also a bus stop 10 minutes’ walk away in the next village if you need it. When you’re not out and about, the site’s log cabins make a lovely place to relax – each one has a flatscreen TV and a self-catering corner with kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave and various supplies (including hot drink bits and breakfast cereals). Your bed will be made up for you, and warm fluffy towels and toiletries are provided in the ensuite bathroom. Outside, a private deck is just the place for an evening drink or an afternoon in the sun, with a barbecue provided to get a meal going too.

Basil cabin

Liked: Very cosy and warm when we arrived. Milk, sugar, tea, coffee and cereals left for us. Lovely fluffy towels and crisp clean bedding. WiFi was an added bonus as our phone signal isn’t very good.

Disliked: We didn’t see anyone during our stay until the day of checkout. It would have been nice to be greeted on arrival although we appreciate some people like to just be left alone to get on with things. There was no hot water coming through on the bathroom sink, the shower worked fine though. Spotted a couple of cobwebs on the ceiling and the tv remote had dried food all over it. Other than that the cabin was clean and homely. If I could leave any feedback it would be that the cabin could do with some additional lighting in the kitchenette area.

Sage cabin

Liked: We liked everything about our stay here. It was so peaceful, and the owners were so welcoming and helpful when it came to informing us about the local area, places to eat etc. The log cabin was equipped with everything we needed and more! The welcome basket they made was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. There was enough room for us two + a grey hound dog so we weren't squished at all and we felt right at home. The mini balcony on the front with two seats and a table was a lovely added touch where we sat and ate dinner in the evening. The dog facility area was also a nice added touch where we could quickly nip the dog out for a stretch of her legs and a toilet stop too.

Disliked: Not so much a dislike, but we didn't have any towels provided. We were sure this was listed on the facilities area when we booked but nonetheless we bought our own just in case! So no direct problems, maybe it's just us misreading.

From the manager: So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your lovely comments and hope we will see you again! We do usually supply towels; was a little human error - apologies. Kind Regards Jeanne & Team

Local attractions

York (half an hour’s drive/50 minutes by bus) should certainly be on the schedule for visitors to this area – it’s a city that’s full of variety, with a tour of the National Railway Museum, a visit to the minster and a wander down the Shambles popular choices of things to do. Add in the Jorvik Viking Centre, boat trips on the River Ouse and York’s Chocolate Story and you should have plenty to fill a day or two… Other town-based outings might take you to the historic market town of Beverley (20 minutes’ drive), to Hull (35 minutes) for The Deep aquarium and Streetlife transport museum or Hornsea (40 minutes) for Bugtopia, beach times and watersports. There are more watersports and an aqua park at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park and more outdoor adventures for the kids at William’s Den (both 10 minutes). For gentler outings, maybe you’d like to go wildlife-spotting at North Cave Wetlands (10 minutes) or RSPB Bempton Cliffs (45 minutes) or take a stroll around the grounds of Castle Howard (40 minutes).
