Burton Constable Holiday Park: Plenty of space to relax on the pitches (photo added by manager on 01/08/2022)

General

  • Peaceful pitches with stunning views of Capability Brown landscapes
  • Hull, Beverley and Bridlington within a 40-minute drive for days out
  • On the Burton Constable estate, with food, bar and facilities

If there’s one name that encapsulates stunning English landscape gardening, it's that of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown – the 18th-century landscape architect was such a genius that his name still tops any list of great garden designers to this day.

Of course, Brown was responsible for numerous spectacular outdoor spaces around the country – but it’s not often that you get to stay in one. However, that’s exactly what you can do at Burton Constable Holiday Park, in the East Yorkshire countryside just outside the village of Sproatley and 20 minutes’ drive from Hull.

There’s some real history behind this place: the holiday park was established in 1968 by J.R Chichester-Constable of neighbouring Burton Constable Hall (which itself has been owned by the Constable family for 900 years). Guests here will be surrounded by Grade I Capability Brown landscape and have some of the finest parkland views to be found anywhere in the country.

Families, couples and dogs are all welcome at this scenic park, which has walks on the park plus a team of friendly staff to help you find your way around (and a 24-hour helpline to ensure there’s always someone on hand if needed).

As befits a location with such a fine pedigree, facilities are top notch at this holiday park, with a playground, modern heated shower blocks, laundry facilities and a well-run bar at the Capability Brown Bridge. Breakfasts, lunches and takeaway snacks can be bought from the food outlets on the park, and there are a couple of pubs a short walk away in the village for days when you fancy more of a stroll.

We loved everything it was such a chilled and peaceful stay, we experienced food from the mobile van, pizzas cheese burgers and chips, sat in the comfortable pub and enjoyed our food, the site was well lite and always felt safe, the weather was typical for the time of year, but just what we expected and didn’t spoil anything, facilities were perfect clean and well kept, the staff were always friendly and polite, we have stayed twice this year and it’s our go to happy place. Thank you burton Constable holiday park for a perfect stay ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Local attractions

Naturally your first stop will have to be Burton Constable Hall, a short walk away across the parkland. You might like to take a tour of the house, or explore the stunning gardens a bit more, or perhaps follow one of the trails (the wildlife sculpture trail is a particular favourite). There are also various play areas for the kids, and an event programme that runs through high season.

Next stop may well be Hull (20 minutes’ drive), where the top spots include The Deep aquarium, the maritime museum and the Streetlife Museum of Transport, where you can see all sorts of old vehicles including cars, trams and trains – and all for free…

If you fancy more urban time, plan days out in Beverley (half an hour) or York (an hour and 15 minutes). Or maybe it’s time to head to the sea? Bridlington (40 minutes) is the place to go for a beach day, while Spurn Point (half an hour) is a wilder area of dunes and bird-spotting.

Must see

  • The Deep (7.0 miles)
  • Ferens Art Gallery (7.1 miles)
  • Far Ings National Nature Reserve (13.5 miles)

National Trust

  • Maister House (6.8 miles)
