  • CAMC members-only site a 10-minute drive from Hornsea, East Yorkshire
  • Beverley Minster 25 minutes’ drive; Hull half an hour
  • Dogs welcome; a five-minute drive from North Sea beaches
A green corner of East Yorkshire is the peaceful setting for Hill House Certificated Location. The site welcomes members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club to its well-maintained grounds a 10-minute drive from the seaside town of Hornsea. If 10 minutes sounds like far too long and you just have to get to the beach ASAP – good news: the nearest beach (Mappleton) is actually only five minutes’ drive away. And – better yet: your dog is allowed to keep you company there as you sift through the sand looking for fossils. However, please note that Mappleton’s proximity to Cowden Beach, a former RAF weapons range, means that you might occasionally stumble upon the odd unexploded ordnance. Steer well clear of any metal objects and keep your dog on a leash. The surrounding area is also rather flat, which lends itself to exploring on two wheels. Head to Hornsea Mere (10 minutes or a half-hour bike ride), where you can indulge in a spot of fishing, take a boat trip or just marvel at the myriad birds (ducks and gulls among them) that make this freshwater lake their home. Back at the site after a day out, you can get ready for an evening at the pub (the nearest one is in Withernwick, a five-minute drive away, or a 20-minute walk). Overlooking a paddock, the hardstanding pitches at Hill House are fully serviced; in addition, the site comes with a modern toilet and shower block, plus freshwater and Elsan points.

This small, peaceful site is praised for its immaculate and well-maintained facilities, including smart new shower and toilet pods. Owners Debbie and Andrew are consistently described as extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Liked Owners very friendly and welcoming.
Site is small peaceful and tidy with excellent facilities. Chemical disposal area will designed and clean. Water and leccy on pitches. Hard standing perfectly level. New shower and toilet pod very smart and immaculate.

Grassed amenity area with picnic tables, ideal for alfresco dining. Trees all round site so calm weather and lots of birds to watch coming and going. The site even had a charming little duck pond in neighbouring field.

Easy 20 minute walk through fields to village and it's pub. Pub itself not dog friendly, can only book for food and must be eaten in restaurant so no food for us, as we have a spaniel.

Disliked Nothing about the site or the owners as that was just perfect. Only disappointment was not being able to get some food at the pub cos we had our dog with us.

Liked Lovely welcome from the owners and good size pitches. Quiet and peaceful site with a lot of birdie and even some ducks on the pond. Lovely toilets and showers which were immaculately clean. Stores and hot food can be delivered to site from the local garage/spar. Wonderful!! Falcon Inn nearby with good food and walkable across the fields.

Local attractions

Watersports enthusiasts head to Hornsea, where they can launch a canoe (or a jetski) off the sandy beach. Near the beach, the Trans Pennine Trail Gateway marks the start (or the arrival point) of the long-distance path linking the North and Irish seas, while Bugtopia Hornsea Zoo is home to bugs, reptiles and colourful birds. The market town of Beverley (25 minutes’ drive) comes alive on a Saturday morning, when stalls selling food, clothing and crafts gather in the central square (appropriately named Saturday Market). Stroll past Georgian townhouses en route to the Beverley Minster, a Gothic structure with splendid stained-glass windows. Standing at the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber Estuary, and looking like an open-mouthed shark, The Deep is a modern aquarium in Hull (half an hour). Other attractions in the city’s aptly named Museums Quarter include the Streetlife Museum, with vintage vehicles, and Wilberforce House, the birthplace of anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce.
