  • Wildlife haven on an adults-only working farm in East Yorkshire
  • A 20-minute drive from Bridlington, its beaches and an animal park
  • Train station, pubs, chip shop and food shop within walking distance
Longing for a little bit (or a lot) of wildlife in East Yorkshire? A 20-minute drive away from Bridlington’s beaches and animal park, Heapfield Farm has a sizable helping. From this adults-only site on a small, family-run traditional working livestock farm, mix up the rather peaceful countryside with all the pleasures of the seaside (windsurfing, pottery-making or doggy paddling in the sea, anyone?) Veer away from the road and hide yourself away, as the farm is tucked away in a good wildlife zone with mowing and cutback kept to a minimum, all the better for happy animal visitors (see if you can spot them). When they’re available, you’ll also have good dibs on fresh eggs direct from the farm. Save some space in your stomach though… as this site is based on the outskirts of Nafferton village near Driffield, there are food shops, pubs (including a rather hipster gastropub) and a fish and chip chop under 20 minutes' walk away from the site. There's a train station here too, just a five-minute walk away (but not too bothersome on the ears when you're around site) if you'd like to whizz away to Scarborough or Hull. Once you’ve finished easing into the beach life or eyeing up the wildlife around the site, other facilities around the site include one toilet, one shower and an Elsan point. While Heapfield is happy to welcome dogs, please note that it is both a quiet site and a working farm, meaning dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Please note that this site does not accept children. While the site team are happy to chat to you about their farming methods, they ask that you do not approach any farm animals, buildings or machinery.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely little site on a working farm, please read the info before booking , the one shower/toilet is in an out building so expect cobwebs, bugs , didn’t bother me , the price you pay reflects the amenities. Nafferton is a lovely village , and an hour walk into Driffield, you can hear trains at time but not through the night . All grass pitches some with ehu. Yes I’d definitely stay again when need to be in the area . The Star pub in Nafferton does really nice food , the chap is Greece so there some Greek food on the menu ,all homemade,

Liked: Short walk to train station and local shop in the village open until 9. Peace and quiet . Great for bat watching. Owner ( and their little dog) very helpful and friendly. I'll definitely be back for a longer stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The location of this site is very good nice and peaceful. The farmer or his wife always welcome us when we arrive. The facilities are basic but what i would expect for a budget site. The wildlife is great i love it when I see the owl flying around I have also seen deer and hares and many other birds. Its a working farm with cows, sheep, ducks and chickens. There is few nice walks in the area too. In the village there is a local shop and 3 pubs. We have recommended this site to many people as its near the coast and many attractions to see. Also Public transport (train and bus) is ideal we don’t even have drive. 👍

Electric grass pitch

Liked: After reading a few reviews was unsure what to expect. Lovely personal welcome on arrival..choice of electric pitches to choose from. What an amazing, chilled and rural part of the country yet so close to an ideal train station so we could explore and leave the van. If you want glamping then book elsewhere. If you want a proper working farm with escaped sheep popping to say hello on a morning and wildlife galore then this is the place for you. Plenty of walks nearby without using the van. Bathroom facilities are sufficient with a lovely hot shower and we loved it and will be back again in the Summer next year.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We chose this location for the start of our month stay in North Yorkshire, our first time of staying in this county, for a relaxing break and the opportunity of travelling on the railway.

Disliked: Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner, chatted and very friendly. However, I asked him where were we to drain off our grey waste and was told 'let it run into the hedge' which was immediately behind the electric hook up and our motorhome. The weather was sunny and very hot there were flies everywhere. This was not appropriate. Whilst the site was reasonabely priced this was very off putting. Generally we use our own facilities but expect to dispose of waste in the appropriate manner. Upon seeing the condition of the 'Elsan' point the following morning we knew we wouldn't be comfortable using it, it was awkward to access, very dark and very dirty. The toilet and shower room was a dumping area and had no comparison with the usual sites we have stayed at with Pitch-up The following morning we packed up and left, deciding to cut our losses and try to find another site for the start of our holiday.

From the manager: This guest was told (after asking) it was ok to throw washing up water into the hedge. It's quite normal for most campers. It is not compulsory. They were not told the HAD to. It was their choice! Waste is a very different matter. Flies - it was one of the hottest weekends of th e year and it's a working farm surrounded by other farms who were doing field work. We cannot control flies. It is The countryside. The Elsan is simply behind a fence panel so don't understand what was difficult to walk behind it. It's on level ground and easily accessed. It has The benefit of running water there - who h some sites dont.it is shielded and private for obvious reasons. The toilet and shower - if you have any photos of the "dumping ground" we would appreciate sight of them. We have had very many good reviews about the facility. It's basic but spacious. The photos show what's in there, apart from showing what literature is in there for guests. Lots of 10/10's generally so I hope that readers will see this is a very "at odds" and totally unfair review. Had you spoken to us or even replied to our messages when we showed concern for your welfare we could have discussed it.

Very pleasant and friendly farmer, basic site as described.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Warm shower, loved the animals, nice location, lovely farmer.

Disliked: Trains. Just passing we could cope with, it was the horn they sounded as it came to the level crossing every time drove us a bit mad.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your scores and feedback. We hope you come again. It was unfortunate about the train noise - I believe they were doing some work , this isn't normal. It's usually extremely quiet here. Thanks for coming and we look forward to seeing you again. 😁

Electric grass pitch

Liked: What can I say about this site? My words alone can't do it justice. We were greeted by Ian when we arrived who showed us the camping field and pointed out the facilities. He gave us a few options of pitches available and said we could pick whichever we wanted. Ian would come to the camping field and check on everyone a couple of times a day. The camping field is level, the grass isn't cut too short which means it is comfortable under foot when inside the tent. The pitches are a good size with plenty of space between each electric hook up. In the camping field there is a porta potti style toilet in a purpose built hut but just around the corner is a bathroom which was basic but very clean. There is only 1 toilet and shower but as it is a small site it wasn't a problem. Neither of us went to the bathroom and had to wait to go in. There is also an area for bins and a chemical disposal point. It is worth mentioning that it is a working farm with cows, sheep, chickens and ducks so if you aren't a fan of animals it probably isn't for you but we loved watching the animals. The site is dog friendly, in fact at one point 7 out of the 8 pitches occupied had dogs, but as it is a working farm they need to be kept on a lead and under control. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this peaceful site and we will definitely return.

Local attractions

Bring your beach gear and don’t forget your swimming suit or trunks, as Hornsea Beach (half an hour's drive) has light waves great for sailing, jetskiing, windsurfing and sea kayaking. Over at Fraisthorpe Beach (25 minutes), however, sand is the speciality – or a light swim, if you have any energy left. In Bridlington (15 minutes), more beaches are on the cards, as well as the Bridlington Animal Park (20 minutes). Peep at meerkats, lemurs and zebras in their enclosures here… If a leisurely stroll beside the canal sounds right up your alley after all that activity, Driffield Canal (five minutes) is close to the site. Perhaps plan to head and see a show at the Driffield Showground (10 minutes). Then, drop by the Burton Agnes Hall (10 minutes), a rather posh Elizabethan manor with a walled garden you might want to purposefully get lost in.
