Greengrass park 15-acre lakeside view

  • Quiet, relaxed site on 35 acres of land with a private 15-acre lake
  • A 20-minute drive to the Yorkshire coast and half an hour to Hull
  • Pizzeria, fishing (additional fee) and a bar with an outdoor terrace
Get to Greengrass Park for a peaceful break in the East Yorkshire countryside – this static holiday home and touring caravan site has noise and safety policies in place to keep its ambience serene. The quiet vibes mean that it’s a calm setting for a spot of fishing at the 15-acre private lake; fishing is for an additional fee, so make sure to arrange it at the reception upon arrival. Non-anglers, meanwhile, can sprawl out in a grassy area for a bit of a chillout session or make a beeline for nearby coastal towns like Hornsea (20 minutes’ drive) and Bridlington (half an hour). Heading to Hull (30 minutes) for the shopping, museums and aquarium also comes much recommended. Pick up essentials in Brandesburton and Leven, a couple of villages around three miles away with supermarkets, a butcher and a deli. For meals, your options include a Chinese takeaway and restaurant, an award-winning fish ‘n’ chip shop and friendly pubs. Not that you’ll need to go far for food: the site has a restaurant and pizzeria as well as a pub serving ales, draught beers, spirits and wines with an open-air terrace looking out across the lake.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Charlie’s bar is very welcoming and the bar and site staff are very helpful.
There is a lovely view of the lake and a children’s playground. There is a laundry with lovely clean showers and toilets

Disliked The main let down are the Motorhome/touring spots on the other side of the park where we were placed. The nearest toilet shed was closed the next ones were not cleaned for 3 days. To be honest, I think they need knocking down and rebuilding. They are very, very poor and unhygienic. The nearest shower block is a five minute walk round beside the lake that has two separate showers with the toilet and sink. The showers are terrible they go cold then hot then stop and cold hot stop. It definitely is no good if you have a very
young child with you. It will be worth your while walking through the forest to the launderette. There is also no shop but there are three shelves behind the reception that has a few things on but not many. There is a refreshment vending machine but you do need the correct change.
No Wi-Fi where we were camping, we had to go to Charlie’s bar to use the Wi-Fi unfortunately Charlie‘s bar is only open Friday and Saturday evening, Saturday and Sunday for a couple of hours for breakfast

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (lake view)

Liked I don’t even know where to start. What can I say?! We absolutely love this site. We’ve been many times and always end up booking an extra night and never want to leave when it’s time to go home. We’ve all had the best holiday again. It’s definitely our favourite place of all. We had an amazing breakfast in Charlie’s bar. Looking forward to trying the evening menu when we return. Everyone is so lovely and are always happy to help. Can’t wait to return again. My son Loved paddle boarding that much we ordered him one. The lake is just perfect and so peaceful. Roll on next time :)

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (lake view)

Liked We had a lovely lady check us in, she was very helpful. We pitched up on the lakeside and ducks came to meet us on arrival. Lovely and quiet we had the best nights sleep! We’d love to come back in summer. The bathrooms were lovely and clean.

From the manager: Thank you for this lovely review Petula! I'm pleased to hear that our regulars welcomed you on arrival.

We hope to welcome you back very soon for another relaxed stay.

I’d avoid, money grabbing.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (lake view)

Liked The view of the lake.

Disliked Overall, our experience was disappointing. The photos online are quite misleading, and the site itself felt very grubby on arrival.
The stay cost £40 for the night, plus an additional £20 cash deposit for the fob, which we were not informed about in advance. Guests are required to leave the site before 10am and return the fob to reception to receive the deposit back. However, reception does not open until 10am, which made this impossible. We tried contacting them by text and email to ask what we should do, but received no response. In the end, we left the fob on the step as instructed, but still had no communication regarding the return of the deposit.
The toilets have been refurbished, which was positive, but there were still building materials left around the area, making the site feel unfinished.
Overall, the stay ended up costing £60 just to park up and look at the lake, which felt very poor value for money.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you felt disappointed with your stay and would like to clarify a few points raised.

The £20 fob deposit is made clear to guests prior to booking and again within the booking confirmation email under our payment terms. The same section also states that dogs attending the park are charged at £5 each, which forms part of the overall booking cost.

With regards to the fob deposit and reception opening hours, we always try to ensure there are ways around this should guests need to leave before reception opens or reception opening times are amended for any reason. Deposits are always refunded once the fob has been returned, and as soon as we received communication from yourselves, the refund was processed immediately.

Our park is continuously improving, and some areas are currently undergoing upgrades. The toilet facilities have recently been refurbished, and further improvements around the park are ongoing. Unfortunately, the weather we experienced at the beginning of the month did not show the park at its best, and wet conditions can make certain areas appear untidy while works are in progress.

We do appreciate your feedback as it helps us continue improving the experience for all visitors.

Avoid in winter if in a motorhome.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Breakfast

Disliked May have missed this information on pitchup but showers & toilets near our pitch very dated & cold. It was a 15 minute walk to warm showers, & only the female showers were heated. The male showers were still under construction. 15 minute walk to the laundrette. Cost £20 to do one load of washing & the washing machine took our washing hostage.
Hubby thought £10 a day to fish was expensive.
The site is not well set up for motorhomes. Grass pitch, which had rubber mats to park on. Sadly after an unpresidented amount of rain we struggled to get off the pitch.
No mobile signal & our router really struggled, meaning I had to cancel 2 online .eetings.

Local attractions

Browse Beverley’s traditional market on a Saturday or swing by this town at any time to take in the Gothic minster and catch the horses hightailing it around the racecourse (20 minutes’ drive). It’s also worth setting off towards Skirlington Leisure Park for the famed car boot sale held on Sundays (outside of January) and to stroll through 70 acres of landscaped countryside leading down to the East Yorkshire coast. Further north (around an hour) is the edge of the North York Moors National Park, where rural police show Heartbeat was filmed, and the location of well-known seaside towns such as Scarborough and Whitby (an hour and an hour and a half, respectively). Spend time on the former's sandy beaches before roaming the ruined Gothic abbey – the inspiration for the novel Dracula – in the latter. Another famed urban settlement not to miss is the ancient city of York (an hour and 10 minutes) with its cobbled streets, Viking history and clutch of excellent independent boutiques. Walk along ancient walls circling the buildings, poke around a 13th-century Gothic cathedral with medieval stained glass and bell towers, then meander to the Monk Bar gate for an exhibition on the infamous King Richard III.
