  • Quiet well-maintained touring pitches on the edge of Seaton Carew
  • Five minutes' drive from the beach; 10 minutes from Hartlepool
  • Pet-friendly site next to a café, bar and indoor sports centre
If golfing, wildlife watching or beach paddles are up your street, take off to Seaton Carew Holiday Park on the outskirts of Seaton Carew. This touring site is just next to a B&B on the edge of this seaside town on the coast of Co Durham… Five-a-side football and golf are for the taking here, as the site is within the Mayfair Centre complex, which has sports domes for these indoor sports, plus a café and a licensed bar that stages events and shows at the weekends. Once you’ve warmed up your golfing arms with an indoor session, you need merely scoot over the road to hit the links of the local golf course. If neither of the above is your bag, there’s plenty more around that are likely to keep all ages happily entertained here: there are miles of golden sandy beaches nearby (with rockpools, sand dunes, windsurfing spots, a traditional promenade, sheltered swimming areas and plenty of space for flying kites and the like) and the Teesmouth National Nature Reserve – a popular spot for migrating ducks and wading birds – is just up the road too. It’s also a handy spot for eating out: there are several fab places to eat and drink within a few minutes of the lodge. When you’d rather stay close to home, several places will deliver food and there’s a top-notch breakfast to tuck into in the site’s cosy dining area, which serves up proper local produce.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Quiet. Dog friendly. Location close to shops and beach and excellent for walk to seal sands. You can see the effort being made with what they have, i.e. crazy golf and new trees being planted. Price was excellent given its location.

Disliked: Could do with more toilets and showers but owner said these were under construction and showed me a area which was closed off and looked like this was being addressed.

Liked: Very well priced, they have a on site shower and toilet available to use, also a hot tub available to hire for £50 for the night. And waste disposal on site too.

Disliked: Not really anything to dislike for the price we paid.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We were told that the Mayfair lodge was a touring caravan site, when we finally found the site, it was obviously not what we expected, no proper toilet or showers, The pitch we were told to park on was basically a car park, definitely not what we expected! We decided not to stay and returned home extremely disappointed.

Hopefully if all comes to fruition could be a lovely place to stop.

Local attractions

Let the kids play farmer for the day… with tractor rides at Tweddle Children’s Animal Farm (15 minutes' drive), alpaca walks at Leven Valley Alpacas (25 minutes) and more animals to say hello to on Newham Grange Farm (25 minutes), there's a lot to muck into, and miniature golf and a playground to let off steam at the latter too. For more games, there’s the bowling alley, amusement arcades and beach in Seaton Carew (five minutes) or the BMX tracks in Summerhill Country Park (10 minutes) are a fab alternative to the footpaths and play areas for particularly adventurous groups. Keep up your active streak in the Wynyard Woodland Park (20 minutes) too, where there’s a former railway track that's now a walking and cycling route with a station house for a café. What of those wildlife-packed places? Well, you’re sure to catch some cool wildlife around Teesmouth National Nature Reserve (five minutes) or the RSPB Saltholme (five minutes). History’s not too far off either, so head to Hartlepool (10 minutes) for the National Museum of the Royal Navy and the HMS Trincomalee and afterwards, the National Trust’s Ormesby Hall (half an hour) and the Augustinian Gisborough Priory (35 minutes for this and Gisborough Forest).
