  • Peaceful 14-acre farm site in the Durham Dales
  • A five-minute walk to Middleton-in-Teesdale; Teesdale Way access
  • Fishing on the banks of the River Tees directly from the site
What a splendid little place… Co Durham's Leekworth Caravan Park is a quiet 14-acre farm site with spectacular countryside views, surrounded by the North Pennines and on the outskirts of the historic market town of Middleton-in-Teesdale. It's a riverside park, set on the banks of the river Tees with fishing for guests: again, splendid. If you're not up for fishing, this is walking land too, with miles of walking paths accessible nearby and the famed Teesdale Way cutting through the farm to join the Pennine Way. If you'd like some inspiration for your North Pennines adventures, you may want to start with Grassholme Reservoir 10 minutes' drive away, before visiting gorgeous waterfalls like High Force Waterfall (also 10 minutes' drive). Back on site, the modern shower and toilet block has underfloor heating throughout; there's also a shower and toilet accessible to disabled guests, along with a covered washing-up area and chemical disposal. Leekworth Caravan Park has a food shop on site. Should you need any other supplies, there is a well-stocked grocery shop, along with country shops and cafés, in Middleton-in-Teesdale, all within five minutes' walk of the site. There is also a big supermarket in Barnard Castle, 20 minutes' drive away from the farm.

What customers say

This immaculately kept, peaceful adults-only site is highly recommended for its stunning riverside location and proximity to Middleton-in-Teesdale. Guests consistently praise the clean, modern toilet and shower facilities, spacious pitches, and friendly, helpful staff. The site offers excellent walking opportunities along the river, an enclosed dog field, and a well-stocked shop. While most guests have no complaints, a few mention the 50p charge for showers and the need for shelves in the shower cubicles.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked Beautiful site lovely walk along the river. Nice and clean

Disliked Staff are extremely rude. Felt uncomfortable and like we weren’t wanted there. Both shop keeper and site owner weren’t very friendly. 50p for a shower when you have already paid to stop is daft. Just needs to be a bit more welcoming and it would be so much better.

Liked Beautiful scenery. Well organised arrivals. Clean showers. Peaceful. Goid size pitch.

Disliked Distance from tents to toilets could be better, toilets are near to caravans which generally have their own facilities.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked The site was spacious and very close to the river with very clean facilities.

Disliked The owner’s lack of reasonableness basically ruined what could have been an enjoyable stay, and we ended up leaving on the last day.

I appreciate the sign clearly stated that check-out was by 11am, but given that there were only around five tents on the entire field and we were told they were fully booked, it was hard to understand the insistence on rushing people off when it was a Sunday and there didn’t appear to be anyone arriving.

The 50p charge for using the showers was also just an unnecessary inconvenience. Surely it would be much simpler to add £1 per day to the pitch price and remove the meter altogether.

It’s the little things like this, along with the attitude of the owner, that can really make or break a campsite experience. Unfortunately, for us, it left a disappointing impression.

Liked Really peaceful, great location really friendly staff and guests.

Disliked Nothing to do with the camp site! but there are some local loud sheep and the midges are a bit annoying. So bring earplugs and keep your net door zipped.
