General

  • On the banks of the Tees with access to the Teesdale Way
  • Free fishing
  • Modern amenities block with underfloor heating and free showers

What a lovely little place… Co Durham's Leekworth Caravan Park is a 14-acre secluded farm site with spectacular countryside views, surrounded by the north Pennines and on the outskirts of the historic market village of Middleton-in-Teesdale.

It's a riverside park, set on the banks of the River Tees with free fishing for guests: how fab. If you're not up for fishing, this is walking land too, with miles of walking paths accessible nearby and the famed Teesdale Way cutting through the farm to join the Pennine Way.

The site's modern shower and toilet block has free showers and underfloor heating throughout; there's also a shower and toilet accessible to disabled guests, along with a covered washing-up area and chemical disposal.

Leekworth has a food shop; a well-stocked grocery shop as well as country shops and cafés are in Middleton village ten minutes' walk away and a big supermarket is in Barnard Castle within ten miles.

Very tidy site, toilets where always clean. Staff were extremely friendly. The location is brilliant. Right on the side of the River Tees with footpaths in each direction. A 10-15 minute walk up the river to town and the nearest pub.

    Disliked:

The showers are now 50p, this is not a problem but knowing in advance would have been helpful.

We really enjoyed our 2-night weekend stay here. The site is tidy and well maintained in it's beautiful setting next to the River Tees. The individual pitches are well marked out - providing a good amount of space per family/group. The site is well serviced with modern toilet and shower facilities and also a small shop which is run by the site owner, Owen, who was very welcoming and friendly throughout the duration of our stay - He clearly cares about his site and that visitors to it enjoy their stay.

The site is a short walk from Middletion-in-Teesdale which has a particularly handy CO-OP. The Teesdale Way runs directly through the site - We used it to access the Pennine Way and walked the 6.5(ish) miles up river to the stunning Low Force and High Force waterfalls. If you do this, we would highly recommend incorporating the slight detour to the Strathmore Arms Pub in Holwick on your way back - Good home cooked food and, again, friendly welcome.

Would definitely return to this site!

We had to cancel our booking due to unforeseen circumstances, we did ask the caravan park if we could rearrange our booking for another date but were not allowed, we were dissapointed as we had bought all our camping gear ready for our first ever camping experience, so we lost our money.

Beautiful location camped by the river, wonderful view to wake up to each morning. Toilets and shower blocks were spotless and well kept throughout out stay.
Great site with walking routes from the site, also ideally situated for visit to high force. Middleton in teesdale is also only 10 -15min walk away with shops, restaurants and pubs.
The owner was really helpful and couldn't do enough for us, great to be able to hire firepit and gave us a free choice of where to pitch our tent!

Will definitely be returning, thanks again!!

Tucked away in a peaceful and scenic location, within reasonable walking distance to local shops etc in Middleton Teesdale. Site owners were very welcoming and friendly. Toilet and shower blocks were immaculate and warm. Great access to nearby walking routes. Extremely quiet site during the day and evening. We loved that we were just left to it and weren't bothered at all during our short stay.

The space for each pitch. Plenty of area to pitch the tent and to park the car. Really well marked out. The river running down the back of the site is lovely and a really good walk. The site felt very safe and was happy for the boys to go exploring.
The showers and toilet facilities were spotlessly clean.

If you want to dive into some Co Durham history, the town of Barnard Castle ten miles away has the acclaimed and handsome Bowes Museum with its collections of art, ceramics, textiles and more, and Raby Castle just outside the village of Staindrop has another art collection as well as eighteenth century gardens surrounding its big park.
