General

  • A 14-acre secluded farm site with access to the Teesdale Way
  • Fishing on the banks of the River Tees
  • Modern amenities block with underfloor heating

What a lovely little place… Co Durham's Leekworth Caravan Park is a 14-acre secluded farm site with spectacular countryside views, surrounded by the north Pennines and on the outskirts of the historic market village of Middleton-in-Teesdale.

It's a riverside park, set on the banks of the River Tees with fishing for guests: how fab. If you're not up for fishing, this is walking land too, with miles of walking paths accessible nearby and the famed Teesdale Way cutting through the farm to join the Pennine Way.

The site's modern shower and toilet block has underfloor heating throughout; there's also a shower and toilet accessible to disabled guests, along with a covered washing-up area and chemical disposal.

Leekworth has a food shop; a well-stocked grocery shop as well as country shops and cafés are in Middleton village 10 minutes' walk away and a big supermarket is in Barnard Castle within ten miles.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A charge of £0.50 applies for the use of shower.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 8 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site was well laid out, well maintained, quiet and set in the most beautiful surroundings. Staff were friendly and helpful, toilets and showers were clean and the pitches large and well signposted.
The site was a few minutes walk from a path that followed the banks of the Tees to join up with the Penine Way, which allowed access to Low Force waterfall (about 5 miles) and High Force (6 miles) - both well worth the hike! And Middleton village, with a well stocked Co-op and plenty of pubs/cafes, was just at the end of the lane.
We didn't try the wifi, but the site had good mobile signal.

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike, since there was plenty of warning, but the 0.5 mile lane leading into the site was very narrow, with just a few passing points. However, the site manages this well by limiting check-in, check-out times to avoid conflicts. The road surface had recently been renewed, which definitely improved things.

The scenery was beautiful with rolling hills to a fabulous river behind us. The showers were also immaculate and a great idea of underfloor heating.

    Disliked:

There was a lack of washing up facilities there could have been more, and the entrance to the campsite could have been cleared up. First impressions looked looked like a dumping ground. Also maybe a play area for children as there was loads of empty fields in the surrounding area.
