  • Peaceful 14-acre farm site in the Durham Dales
  • A five-minute walk to Middleton-in-Teesdale; Teesdale Way access
  • Fishing on the banks of the River Tees directly from the site
What a splendid little place… Co Durham's Leekworth Caravan Park is a quiet 14-acre farm site with spectacular countryside views, surrounded by the North Pennines and on the outskirts of the historic market town of Middleton-in-Teesdale. It's a riverside park, set on the banks of the river Tees with fishing for guests: again, splendid. If you're not up for fishing, this is walking land too, with miles of walking paths accessible nearby and the famed Teesdale Way cutting through the farm to join the Pennine Way. If you'd like some inspiration for your North Pennines adventures, you may want to start with Grassholme Reservoir 10 minutes' drive away, before visiting gorgeous waterfalls like High Force Waterfall (also 10 minutes' drive). Back on site, the modern shower and toilet block has underfloor heating throughout; there's also a shower and toilet accessible to disabled guests, along with a covered washing-up area and chemical disposal. Leekworth Caravan Park has a food shop on site. Should you need any other supplies, there is a well-stocked grocery shop, along with country shops and cafés, in Middleton-in-Teesdale, all within five minutes' walk of the site. There is also a big supermarket in Barnard Castle, 20 minutes' drive away from the farm.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked Generous pitch, great shower/toilet block, nice and clean. Underfloor heating makes it feel so smooth (50p for shower that's about 10 minutes). Wifi at pitch (could be stronger). Great spot, nice river walk to the next co-op. Feels like a real campground with facilities.

Disliked Needs campers kitchen and laundry to be perfect (they are working on it).

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked Fantastic site in a lovely area of the countryside. Easy to walk into the local town with a selection of cafes, pubs and a small supermarket. Very clean toilet and shower facilities with nice hot water (take 50p for the shower). Friendly owner always around if you needed anything. Short drive to the High Force and Low Force Waterfalls, also within easy reach of Hamsterley Forest for cycling and other activities.

Electric grass touring pitch (adults only)

Liked We absolutely loved leekworth campsite. A very warm welcome to an immaculate site with stunning scenery all around us. We were pitched almost next to the river which was beautiful. We took the short walk along the river to town and were lucky enough to experience the local farmers market which had a variety of food, drink and craft stalls. We also visited low and high force which were spectacular as was Gibson’s cave at Bowlee visitors centre. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here from beginning to the end and will definitely return to Leekworth campsite to explore the area more. Campsite was the perfect start and end to our day.

Several waterfalls are easily reached from the site, including Low Force Waterfall (10 minutes' drive) over the Whin Sill rock, and England's highest uninterrupted drop of water High Force Waterfall (15 minutes). There's also a walk up the riverside footpath from the Bowless picnic area to Gibson's cave, past four small falls up to Summerhill Force (10 minutes). If you want to dive into some Co Durham history, the town of Barnard Castle (20 minutes) has the acclaimed and handsome Bowes Museum with its collections of art, ceramics, textiles and more, and Raby Castle (25 minutes) just outside the village of Staindrop has another art collection as well as 18th-century gardens surrounding its big park.
