What customers say

This is a peaceful site with beautiful views, praised for its clean and well-equipped glamping pods. Guests highlight the excellent location for exploring local attractions and walking routes. The on-site pub receives frequent positive mentions for its good quality, reasonably priced food and friendly staff. While most reviews are highly positive, a few visitors noted minor issues such as insufficient heating in colder months and a desire for more shelving in the pods.

Camping pod (three person)

Liked Hut was clean and tidy, people at bar on site were very friendly and accommodating.

The toilet and shower facilities were clean too.

Disliked It states there's a shop on site but it is closed down, you can see through the window that there's nothing on any of the shelves.

None of the lamps work around the small walk way from the toilets to the huts, so on a night time you have to take your phone or torch as it's complete darkness.

Liked We loved our 2 nights here. Lovely area and the park wasn't too far away. Facilities such as showers and toilets were good. Washing up area great. Pods were lovely and cosy. Staff friendly. Would definitely go back.

Disliked Microwave had a meal left in it. Daughter didn't want to leave.

Liked Quiet, great views, ample parking

Disliked Poor cleaning.
- Bird poo on sides where wash up never cleaned up
- cabin floor sticky and full
Of sugar and bits when arrived. Swept it ourselves. Wiped table and the cloth was black when finished.

Camping pod (four person)

Liked Beautiful setting ideally located for visiting High Force, Raby Castle and Barnard Castle. Peaceful site with pub serving lovely home cooked food. Clean camping huts and toilets / showers.

Disliked Onsite shop and reception has closed down making it difficult to get any assistance other than speaking to public staff during opening hours, but they did not necessarily have the means to respond as I didn't get the impression they had a lot to do with the site other than giving keys out on arrival.

Local attractions

Keen to cross the highest waterfall in England off your bucket list? Stroll the banks of the River Tees to High Force (15 minutes’ drive), with its stunning 70-foot drop. For more watery spectacles, amble up to Summerhill Force from Bowlees Visitor Centre (15 minutes), or head for Cow Green Reservoir (25 minutes) to hike up to Cauldron Snout, carved out of volcanic rock. Cyclists of all levels can follow the mountain-bike trails in Hamsterley Forest (20 minutes), where you can also take mindfulness walks through the trees, and for after-dark adventuring, wait for a cloudless night and head for the telescopes at Grassholme Observatory (10 minutes) to gaze up at the universe. To introduce a bit of culture into your holiday, tour medieval Raby Castle (15 minutes) for a romp through centuries of history in antique-filled rooms, and if the kids behaved, let them have a run around in the adjacent deer park afterwards. For impressive decorative-arts collections – including the famed Silver Swan automaton designed in 1773 – head for the Bowes Museum (15 minutes), and then have a poke around the indie shops in Barnard Castle (10 minutes).
