For your next adventure in a designated National Landscape, how about choosing the North Pennines? Or more specifically, the smart wooden pods at Hilltop Huts, tucked behind a popular pub in Teesdale, and 10 minutes’ drive from Barnard Castle in County Durham? Sleeping up to five people, all the pods are equipped with a kettle, toaster, microwave, small fridge and storage. Outside, there’s a picnic bench for open-air eats on warmer days, as well as a covered pot-wash area, coin-operated washing and drying facilities, and a modern shower block, with hot water heated by green energy. There’s no need to fret if you’ve left anything vital behind at home, as there’s a well-stocked shop on site, where you can pick up disposable barbecues, charcoal and kindling if you fancy honing your alfresco cooking skills. And don’t forget that the Moorcock Inn, where you can be sure of a warm welcome as well as home-cooked food using produce from the owners’ farm, is (literally) steps away from your cosy pod. There’s masses to keep kids happy too. A games room in the pub has a pool table, darts board and dominos (handy for any drizzly days), while Eggleston Play Park (10 minutes’ walk) is all set up with zipwires, slides, swings, mini football and a basketball court. Or how about a family excursion to follow the Gruffalo Trail in Hamsterley Forest (20 minutes’ drive)?

Gasten prijzen de adembenemende uitzichten, rustige sfeer en centrale ligging. Pods zijn schoon en knus, met handige voorzieningen. De pub is populair voor goed eten en vriendelijke service. Sanitair is over het algemeen goed, maar kan een update gebruiken. Kleine minpunten: wisselende info bij check-in, pub-geluid bij evenementen, en gesloten winkeltje.

Ik was blij met The whole experience was five star in every way. The pod was excellent and really clean. The location is great. I was very lucky it was really quiet as only a few pods were being used, which I appreciated.

The arrival was really good and they communicated really well. The departure was so laid back and easy.

The area is really quiet even though it is behind a pub. I would never have known. Next time I'll pop in for a beer.

Would really recommend for anyone that is looking for a more laid back quiet camping pod experiences. The showers were great and the toilet block is so clean.

Ik was blij met Liked Every fink friendly staff wer really nice and helpful food was unreal from there pub the pods were nice clean and peaceful we will 100% be back you can sea for miles over the north penines

Ik was blij met It was nice and peaceful and the toilet/shower block was nice. Thankfully it was very empty during our stay which meant we were close to the car park and toilets.

Ik was niet blij met The hut was dirty, the pull out beds were very uncomfortable with such little padding to sleep on. There was an outdoor sink for drinking water which wasn’t the best either. The reception/shop on site was always shut and when we came to check out there was no one anywhere on site, not in the reception or the pub so I had to leave the key next to the reception door, which I don’t thinks very professional at all. We also weren’t given any WiFi passwords.

Ik was blij met Great location. Pods are a good size and were very clean. Toilet and shower block were immaculate. Great base to set out on some lovely walks. The local pub is great and the food was very good.

Ik was niet blij met Fridge on the small side.

Ik was blij met Lovely clean spacious pods, gorgeous views and so peaceful. Great staff. Food in the pub was amazing and lovely welcoming atmosphere.

Ik was blij met Hut was clean and tidy, people at bar on site were very friendly and accommodating.

The toilet and shower facilities were clean too.

Ik was niet blij met It states there's a shop on site but it is closed down, you can see through the window that there's nothing on any of the shelves.

None of the lamps work around the small walk way from the toilets to the huts, so on a night time you have to take your phone or torch as it's complete darkness.

No WiFi password anywhere

Ik was blij met We loved our 2 nights here. Lovely area and the park wasn't too far away. Facilities such as showers and toilets were good. Washing up area great. Pods were lovely and cosy. Staff friendly. Would definitely go back.

Ik was niet blij met Microwave had a meal left in it. Daughter didn't want to leave.
