Liked Beautiful site in a fab location, facilities lovely and clean pub on site was delicious.

Disliked Only problem i had was it said there was a shop onsite but their wasn't. And I paid extra for a hut sleeping 5 people but we only was given the 4 there was no one on the site to ask and we werent entirely sure if the pub would deal with it the site was empty so no reason why we didnt get the correct pod but we made do I was just unhappy that I paid extra.

Camping pod (five person)

Liked It was nice and peaceful and the toilet/shower block was nice. Thankfully it was very empty during our stay which meant we were close to the car park and toilets.

Disliked The hut was dirty, the pull out beds were very uncomfortable with such little padding to sleep on. There was an outdoor sink for drinking water which wasn’t the best either. The reception/shop on site was always shut and when we came to check out there was no one anywhere on site, not in the reception or the pub so I had to leave the key next to the reception door, which I don’t thinks very professional at all. We also weren’t given any WiFi passwords.

Camping pod (five person)

Liked Pods we're clean and tidy with plenty of storage! very helpful, friendly staff! Pub onsite serving food! Food was in my opinion excellent and reasonably priced, you can either eat in or take away which we chose to do, toilets clean and quite modern.

Disliked We had a 5 person pod which possibly would suit family with small(ish) children but was a bit small with our 2 18yr old kids, beds were quite hard and uncomfortable! Showers looked awesome but in reality the flow was quite slow and not hot enough! The worst part was the pot wash which consistered of 1 pot sink and two drainers when there was a couple of what looked like unused buildings which could easily be converted

What customers say

Guests consistently praise the stunning views, peaceful atmosphere, and excellent value for money offered by this site. Glamping pods are frequently described as clean, well-equipped, and cosy, with many appreciating the kitchenette facilities. The on-site pub receives high marks for its delicious and reasonably priced food, as well as its welcoming atmosphere. Toilet and shower facilities are generally reported as spotless and well-maintained, though some reviews suggest they could benefit from an update. While the location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area and enjoying outdoor activities, the closure of the on-site shop has been noted as an inconvenience by some. Occasional issues with Wi-Fi information and noise from the pub during private events have been mentioned.

Camping pod (three person)

Liked The whole experience was five star in every way. The pod was excellent and really clean. The location is great. I was very lucky it was really quiet as only a few pods were being used, which I appreciated.

The arrival was really good and they communicated really well. The departure was so laid back and easy.

The area is really quiet even though it is behind a pub. I would never have known. Next time I'll pop in for a beer.

Would really recommend for anyone that is looking for a more laid back quiet camping pod experiences. The showers were great and the toilet block is so clean.

Disliked nothing

Camping pod (three person)

Liked Hut was clean and tidy, people at bar on site were very friendly and accommodating.

The toilet and shower facilities were clean too.

Disliked It states there's a shop on site but it is closed down, you can see through the window that there's nothing on any of the shelves.

None of the lamps work around the small walk way from the toilets to the huts, so on a night time you have to take your phone or torch as it's complete darkness.

Local attractions

Keen to cross the highest waterfall in England off your sightseeing list? Stroll the banks of the River Tees to High Force (15 minutes’ drive), with its stunning 70-foot drop. For more watery spectacles, amble up to Summerhill Force from Bowlees Visitor Centre (15 minutes), or head for Cow Green Reservoir (25 minutes) to hike up to Cauldron Snout, carved out of volcanic rock. Cyclists of all levels can follow the mountain-bike trails in Hamsterley Forest (20 minutes), where you can also take mindfulness walks through the trees, and for after-dark adventuring, wait for a cloudless night and head for the telescopes at Grassholme Observatory (10 minutes) to gaze up at the universe. To introduce a bit of culture into your holiday, tour medieval Raby Castle (15 minutes) for a romp through centuries of history in antique-filled rooms, and if the kids behaved, let them have a run around in the adjacent deer park afterwards. For impressive decorative-arts collections – including the famed Silver Swan automaton designed in 1773 – head for the Bowes Museum (15 minutes), and then have a poke around the indie shops in Barnard Castle (10 minutes).
