  • Peaceful, lakeside motorhome and caravan park at Hepworth in Suffolk
  • Thetford Forest Park 20 minutes’ drive; Bury St Edmunds 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with lake views; play area; dog walks from site
Arthur’s Retreat touring site is on the outskirts of Hepworth village, right on the border between the lovely counties of Suffolk and Norfolk in fen country. It’s just off the A143, so base yourself here to explore locally or stop over for a night or two on your journey to Felixstowe (an hour’s drive). A small cluster of hardstanding pitches is set in a peaceful lakeside field; each has its own picnic bench for enjoying the views, and there are additional bench seats overlooking the water. You can rent firepits to keep warm and cosy, get a barbecue going and enjoy watching the stars on cloudless nights. Kids will have a ball running around in the play area, and there are several footpaths leading into the Suffolk countryside (handy for exercising any dogs). There are drinking-water taps on every pitch, and electric hook-ups are available for an additional fee.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nice site just as described. The family that own it are really friendly. Nice touch with each pitch having its own picnic bench, especially as our weather was good. Nice that the owners are giving a good price as we have noticed lots of sites are really putting them up, well done. Will stay again🙂

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Loved the simple life will be returning without the grandkids. Great little no frills site just pull up hook up and chill out.

Disliked: Just off a busy main road you can hear the traffic but that didnt spoil our time here. Coming from London I’ve heard worse.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Good levelled very spacious pitch with water and electric hook up within each reach on each pitch. Pitches a good distance from each other ensuring privacy and the fact that it was a small site meant i felt safe. Hollie the owner was very accommodating and welcoming, such a lovely lass. She was grass cutting the day I left and doing a good job of it. The WiFi was excellent which was good as the telephone mobile signal there was not good (obviously not Hollies fault). As I am on a very tight budget it was extremely good value for money. I also liked the fact that a passer by camper could dump waste and refill water for £5 ( in an honesty box) without needing to book a pitch. The elson waste disposal point was nice and clean. The plastic swan in the pond was a good giggle for me when I entered the site. I will definitely return

Disliked: You can hear the road traffic on the nearby busy A143 so you need to take that into consideration if you're a light sleeper, ( bring ear plugs) but it wasn't a problem for me as I like background music on in my van. Remember this site has no shower/ toilet block so bring your wet wipes and portaloo. These lack of facilities probably correctly reflect the cheap price to stay.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The site was easy to find and had a good access point for all vehicles. Having water and electricity at each pitch was very convenient. Each area was spacious and gave everyone privacy and plenty of space. In warm weather the picnic benches would be great. Lovely local walks with an abundance of wildlife to see. Hollie was very friendly and is keen to improve what is a very new site.

Disliked: A path across to the chemical toilet disposal point would have made it less muddy and slippy and an extra recycling bin is needed as the only one there was quickly filled. The TV signal and WiFi is patchy. The hardstanding was great but the edges need firming up and defining. Children would need supervision around the deep pond.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Great little site for a close to home weekend away, everything you need to be self sufficient, mobile phone signal a bit patchy but free Wifi worked well, our little boy made friends with other children on site so they had a great time playing at the park together. Beautiful sunset across the field we shall definitely look to stay again soon.

Disliked: Our self chosen pitch was a little uneven and although it's gravel we did sink a little on one side but not an issue, next time we visit we shall try a different spot and bring some ramps just in case.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Really friendly little site and has some real potential to be great. Didn't want to put as a dislike but, unfortunately had very heavy rain and whole site flooded. They did say they are closing to fix issues, so hopefully will get some drainage in place. Could be a lovely little site and only just opened last year, so a few teething issues. Did ask for everyone on site, for suggestions on how to improve, its nice that they are asking customers for feedback.

Disliked: WIFI very intermittent and no phone signal, so this was important to us as had family we needed to keep in contact with. Couldn't find any Grey waste disposal on site and everyone just had hoses from their vans to long grass, did help when flooded.

From the manager: Hello, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately we can't control the weather. I did come to check on the site when the weather was at its worst and none of the pitches were actually flooded. Our village was extremely flooded so it was backing up to our lake but it wasn't close to any pitches. Grey waste is by the septic tank and bins. I do apologise about the WiFi the rain does have an effect on this as the router is in a field. I'm not sure why accommodation is 2/10 as we don't supply accommodation.. Thank you for your feedback we will look into improving what we can.
