  • Lakeside adults-only motorhome and caravan park at Hepworth in Suffolk
  • Thetford Forest Park 20 minutes’ drive; Bury St Edmunds 25 minutes
  • Peaceful hardstanding pitches with lake views; dog walks from site
Arthur’s Retreat, an adults-only touring site, is on the outskirts of Hepworth village, right on the border between the lovely counties of Suffolk and Norfolk in fen country. It’s just off the A143, so base yourself here to explore locally or stop over for a night or two on your journey to Felixstowe (an hour’s drive). A small cluster of hardstanding pitches is set in a peaceful lakeside field; each has its own picnic bench for enjoying the views, and there are additional bench seats overlooking the water. You can rent firepits to keep warm and cosy, get a barbecue going and enjoy watching the stars on cloudless nights. Several footpaths lead into the Suffolk countryside (handy for exercising any dogs). There are drinking-water taps on every pitch, and electric hook-ups are available for an additional fee.

What customers say

This small, well-maintained campsite offers peaceful countryside views and is praised for its great value. Pitches are described as spacious, flat, and hard-standing with convenient electric hook-up and water taps. A picnic table is provided at each pitch. Guests highlight the friendly and helpful owners, and positive feedback is given regarding the excellent Wi-Fi. While lacking toilet and shower facilities, this is generally accepted given the pricing. Some minor issues with mud during wet weather and occasional road noise have been noted, but many reviewers expressed a strong desire to return. The owner has addressed feedback regarding site tidiness.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Small, with eight pitches, all hard standing. No facilities, but has water and electric close to each pitch. Beautiful setting in the quiet countryside with a pond with wildfowl and nature. Adults only, so super peaceful and quiet. At £12.50 a night plus £5 for EHU, good value for money. The main things were the owners, Holly and her partner. Super friendly, really accommodating, and my dog fell in love with their son! Super relaxed site in a lovely country setting. I will definitely be back.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely little site, nicely situated in beautiful countryside with a lake to view birds. Wild camping but with electric and water hook up - brilliant. It was close to lots of local attractions and having dogs loved Thetford Forest and, as detailed by owner, a walk at Thornham Walks which has childrens play areas, designated path or off the beaten track paths. A lovely cafe and nice feel.

As newer site was asked by owners for any feedback which I given below. Not a dislike just notes to help get it perfect! There were slight errors between booking with owners or PitchUp ie paying by cash on arrival or sending money to owners directly through bank which, of course, is much easier. This was remedied quickly by owners and they have said they are looking into this.

Disliked There was no specific drainage point for waste water. No recycling facilities. Not a problem to us, but wifi is not good however TV signal is great.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Well maintained small camp site set on a quit country lane. Small pond. Great bridle way walks across the fields for dogs. Hard standing with electric hook up and a tap for each stand. Has a picnic table for each site. Cctv in operation and owner available if needed.

Disliked Would be helpful for a path from road to toilet waste as grass is quite bumpy

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely little site, very quiet with plenty of space around each pitch. The owner is lovely and popped by to say hello, and could be absolutely perfect with little tlc, we will definitely stay again.

Disliked Needs a little ‘spruce’ up. A lot of weeds and thistles coming through the hard standing and the grass area is very uneven and in need of a good mow.

From the manager: Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

I've taken your comments on board. The grass has been cut today (waited for a quieter changeover day). I've also pulled lots of weeds up. We don't put any weed killer/chemicals down due to the amount of dogs and wildlife that visit.

We look forward to welcoming you again to a more manicured site. Thank you 🙂
