  • Meadow site overlooking a fen on an East Anglia farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Banham Zoo and Bressingham Steam & Gardens
  • Off-ground firepits allowed; small World War II museum on site
From Hillside Farm Camping, you’ll be able to gather steam into Norfolk’s historic market towns, broads and countryside with an East Anglian farm as your base. This meadow site looks over a sloping fen, arable fields and a church, with the farmhouse close by. It’s certainly a good vantage point to be in, not just for the scenery, but also for the market town of Diss, Banham Zoo and Bressingham Steam & Gardens 15 minutes’ drive away. Uniquely, this site will take you on a little tour of history if you wish, as those of you with an interest in aviation can request a viewing in the small museum on site, created in memory of the men of the 388th Bomb Group who flew B-17's from Knettishall airfield during World War II. In a converted horse box, there are toilet and shower facilities available for guests to use. Water’s available from the tap by the house too, so that you can fill up your own cooking equipment or wash your hands ready for a barbecue (you’ll need to bring your own gas barbecue or off-ground firepit). Well-behaved dogs have the green light here, as long as they’re kept on a lead and cleaned up after, so you should feel quite at home with all the family around. Handily, there’s a dog-friendly pub just 20 minutes’ walk away and a fish and chip shop 10 minutes the other way if that’s your cup of tea.

This campsite is praised for its friendly and accommodating hosts, with many highlighting Deborah. Guests appreciate the clean and well-maintained field, level pitches, and the lovely communal seating area, described as rustic and atmospheric, with power for charging and WiFi. The location is convenient, with a short walk to a local shop, pub, and chip shop, and offers beautiful views and nearby walks. The converted horse box shower/toilet is functional with hot water. A minor drawback mentioned is occasional road noise.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The hosts Deborah and James. Location was good for access to Grimes Graves, Dad’s Army Museum, nature reserve and town centre Thetford. Pub within reasonable walking distance. Quiet, even though just off main road. This site has a quaint charm about it and felt very relaxed and welcome. Not too big. Loved the quirkiness of the shower and toilet being in a converted horse box. The site also boasts what we called a lounge (a converted stable/out building that has tables and chairs, a large sofa, use of a fridge and phone charging facilities). Added bonus of the little WW2 museum on site dedicated to US Army 388 bombardment group that were stationed locally.

Disliked Not necessarily a dislike, but be aware only one shower and toilet for the site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The park had a very secure environment and a lovely communal seating area (converted stable) with sofas and a fridge which is perfect to sink into a good read.
Only one shower and loo made from an old horse box but water was lovely and hot.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we're so pleased you enjoyed your stay here with us.

There are actually two toilet/shower cubicles within the horse box so I'm sorry if we didn't make that clear.

We hope to welcome you back one day.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great welcome. Horse box toilet and shower. Lots of room. Easy to find. 3 mins walk to the local shop, little further for the chippy. Free toiletries for the shower that are eco-friendly and vegan. Communal seating area with power for charging was brilliant.

Disliked Not much really, if I could be picky I camped right next to the road side so I’d camp further away in the future and it wouldn’t be an issue.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great hosts, atmospheric with the connection to the past. Close to pub, shop and chippy.

Disliked No dislikes really but please don't move the site, just have a re-shuffle as I understand you don't always want campers on your lawn. You could make more of the Nissen huts and surrounds surely? The ghosts of the past are crucial to the sites charm.
