Hillside Farm Camping: The site's meadow

General

  • Meadow site overlooking a fen on an East Anglia farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Banham Zoo and Bressingham Steam & Gardens
  • Off-ground firepits allowed; small World War II museum on site

From Hillside Farm Camping, you’ll be able to gather steam into Norfolk’s historic market towns, broads and countryside with an East Anglian farm as your base. This meadow site looks over a sloping fen, arable fields and a church, with the farmhouse close by. It’s certainly a good vantage point to be in, not just for the scenery, but also for the market town of Diss, Banham Zoo and Bressingham Steam & Gardens 15 minutes’ drive away.

Uniquely, this site will take you on a little tour of history if you wish, as those of you with an interest in aviation can request a viewing in the small museum on site, created in memory of the men of the 388th Bomb Group who flew B-17's from Knettishall airfield during World War II.

In a converted horse box, there are toilet and shower facilities available for guests to use. Water’s available from the tap by the house too, so that you can fill up your own cooking equipment or wash your hands ready for a barbecue (you’ll need to bring your own gas barbecue or off-ground firepit).

Well-behaved dogs have the green light here, as long as they’re kept on a lead and cleaned up after, so you should feel quite at home with all the family around. Handily, there’s a dog-friendly pub just 20 minutes’ walk away and a fish and chip shop 10 minutes the other way if that’s your cup of tea.

Please note

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

There are no bins onsite: all rubbish will need to be taken home with you.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Deborah and James are fantastic hosts!

The campsite has amazing views, and access to so much on the doorstep.

The showers are amazing, with natural products and add extra to go with hot powerful showers.

They have even gone the extra mile creating a communal space in case of wet weather in the barn!

The site owner was very welcoming and keen to listen to suggestions. The site is quite basic with a shower, a washing up room, water and a couple of toilets. The field is flat and clearly laid out.
There is a small museum onsite which campers can ask to view.
The location is fairly close to both Thetford and Bury St Edmunds so there is a lot to see in the locality.

    Disliked:

It was difficult to find because the post code takes you to the wrong farm on the wrong side of the road. Pitchup were no help at all in finding the site so it took a long time to discover the location. The owner was very apologetic and explained that Pitchup do not provide enough information to find many of the sites easily which is a pity because the rest of their website is very useful. They should allow site owners to use What3Words to identify the location as this can even take you to the front door of a house while post codes are too vague. That would not help those without mobiles but most people could use the system.

From the manager...

We really appreciate you taking the time to leave an honest review and for providing some useful suggestions. We have asked Pitchup again to include What3Words in the directions for our site but it appears to be contrary to their rules.

For future reference the words "pillow.moods.recliner" will take you directly to our gate. Alternatively Google maps co-ordinates: 52.3689056, 0.9226863 could be used or just searching for 'Hillside Farm, Market Weston' on google maps will ensure guests arrive at the correct place.

We are really sorry you struggled to find us and we intend to provide additional signage to make it easier for future guests. We are also considering taking up most of your other suggestions. We are very glad that you otherwise enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Best wishes and happy camping,
Deborah and James
