Welcome to sunnyside campsite
Welcome!

  • Small, secluded back-to-basics farm site with a nature pond
  • A 10-minute drive from Halesworth; 20 minutes from Southwold
  • Play area and shared fridge freezer; friendly pub five minutes’ walk
Small is beautiful, so surround yourself with beauty at Sunnyside Campsite, a one-acre site with grassy pitches framed by ash trees and hawthorn hedges. This peaceful meadow is also easily accessible by public transport – Brampton station is a 30-minute walk (or a 10-minute bike ride) from base. This pretty farm site has a nature pond, a kids’ play area and a tumbledown old stable that houses the spick-and-span toilets and water point. Other handy facilities include a washing-up area and a shared fridge freezer. Campfires and barbecues are allowed (as long as they’re raised off the ground), and firepits are available to hire on site, while logs and charcoal can be purchased from the little honesty shop. Fish suppers are on the cards on Thursdays, when a visiting van comes round to sell fresh, locally caught seafood. Sunnyside Campsite is in a prime location for cyclists, who can set out on long- or short-distance pedals along National Cycle Route 1, which passes right at the end of the lane. Walkers and folk who like messing around in boats also have lots of options: the Suffolk coastline can be reached in under 20 minutes’ drive, while the Norfolk Broads are less than a half-hour away. The site is a few minutes’ stroll from a friendly community pub and a village play area. Cafés, restaurants and a larger supermarket are all in Halesworth (10 minutes’ drive).

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: This is the second time we’ve visited this campsite this year and we LOVE IT. It’s got spacious pitches, it has a park/play equipment for kids, free roaming chickens, close drive to beaches and a 5 min walk to the pub. Everything you could want from a campsite!

Disliked: The shower can sometimes be temperamental/cold if someone else flushes loo or is running water. But it soon heats up again. Just be aware there is only 1 shower, which isn’t much of an issue due to small size of campsite

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Everything. It was a fairly basic site, but clean and very thoughtfully set up. The owners had tried to make sure they provided everything to make peoples' stay a good experience. Great little honesty shop; lots of up to date information leaflets and maps and guide books. A really lovely rural site; very peaceful. A very friendly place to be.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Our first camping experience with young children. Site was small and felt very safe. Kids happy exploring and the trampoline and rope swim kept them happy and smiling for hours! As a new camper having a kettle and a shower made a difference! Loved the fresh flowers in the communal spaces - a simple but beautiful touch

Disliked: The shower temperature was hard to control - went from hot to cold. Strict noise curfew at 10pm when we were chatting around the campfire.

From the manager: Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your first time camping. We do operate a quiet policy from 10pm. Unfortunately we did need to ask you to be quiet after this time. We had received several complaints about noise from your group the previous evening. Consideration of all our guests is extremely important especially on a small site. Kind regards, Salky & Richard 🌞

Hempland rental tent

Liked: This is a wonderful site. Rural, peaceful and sheltered. I used it as my base for a couple of days to cycle the area and chose to stay in the pre-erected tent. This was superb! Plenty of room with a very comfortable bed and everything you need for your stay (bring own towel and bedding). The field is surrounded by mature trees that don't shade the sun but block the wind and the children's play areas are dotted around but not intrusive at all for those wanting to appreciate the peace. The facilities have a rustic charm and are very clean and perfectly in keeping with the site. The wild flowers in the shower and toilet a nice touch. It's also set back a good distance from a not very busy road so no traffic noise at all. I slept really well, though something ate my strawberries that I left outside... Lovely hosts, and a great place to stay. Many thanks.

From the manager: It was a pleasure to meet you! Delighted you enjoyed your stay in the ready tent! Sorry about your strawberries! 😂 Lots of wildlife in the meadow. Storing food in the cool box or the communal fridge/freezer is recommended! Hope to see you again! Best wishes, Sally & Richard

Local attractions

The sandy beach at Southwold (20 minutes) is dominated by the white bulk of the 19th-century Southwold Lighthouse and lined by colourful wooden huts. Stroll along the long pier, stopping for ice cream or fish and chips, then head into town and the Southwold Museum for a primer on local history. With their reed-lined ponds and shallow lagoons, the marshes of RSPB Minsmere (30 minutes) are home to avocets, curlews and marsh harriers – plus the occasional (but elusive) otter. Just up the coast from there, National Trust - Dunwich Heath and Beach becomes a colourful riot of purple heather in the summer. The tall spire of the cathedral in Norwich (45 minutes) is visible from far and wide. Explore the interior of this splendid 11th-century church, strolling through the cloisters and the choir, where (if you’re lucky) you might meet Budge, the cathedral cat. The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell explores the history of the area.
