  • Adults-only site on 12 acres of peaceful Suffolk farmland
  • Woodbridge 10 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Ipswich or Sutton Hoo
  • Dogs welcome; pubs and River Deben beach within walking distance
With easy access from the A12 and A14, plus 12 acres of peaceful natural land to its name, Low Farm Campsite is an excellent spot for an easy escape in a splendid Suffolk setting. This lovely location is part of the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, and the owners of the site are doing their bit to preserve the local landscapes by returning their farmland to nature. As part of that approach, the guest areas have been designed to sit nicely in the natural setting, with plenty of space so that you’ll never feel crammed in even if the place is full. The idea here is to create peaceful, simple experiences, and with that in mind the owners have set the place up as an adults-only site with just the essential facilities – guests have access to toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point. Dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a leash on site – the area’s footpaths and open spaces mean you shouldn’t struggle to find a place for a good walk (whether you’ve got a dog or not). You’re allowed to set up a barbecue here if you’d like to do some outdoor cookery, but there are also a couple of pubs within walking distance serving up good food for those times when you don’t feel like it. Also within easy walking distance is a river beach on the River Deben, with boat trips available. Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive) and Ipswich (20 minutes) are also close by for shops and places to eat.

This adult-only campsite is highly praised for its peaceful atmosphere, spacious and private pitches, and immaculately clean facilities, including showers and toilets. Guests appreciate the natural surroundings, excellent location for local walks to pubs and the river, and the option for wild camping. Liked Gorgeous wildlife pitch. Loved the space and little nooks. Nice to be able to pick where to pitch which have to a very private stay with lovely views. The campsite was very quiet which was nice and despite being wild the area was accessible and maintained.
Liked the automatic check in and no need to go to reception

Electric grass pitch

Liked Really nice site with easy access for a motorhome. It was run by a nice couple who were very helpful with lending us a water lead. Good for dogs. Water was close to electric which was also good. Lots of pitches for tents and motorhomes.

Also liked the security with electric gates and was clean and tidy.

The river Debden walk and Maybush pub was also excellent. Dogs loved the river beach and river!

Disliked Very bad was having no phone signal on this site - so could not use our phones or book our next site. The camp site has even on 3G. The site has no WiFi at present but they maybe installing in the future so there was no backup. Having no signal was an issue for us as we were trying to make some business arrangements. Campers need at least one or other.

Only 2 showers so you could have quite a wait when site is fuller. We showered early so were fine. Site very clean which matches the standards of camping and caravanninh club but a bigger site.

Electric grass pitch

Liked This was our first time staying at Low Farm and we were not disappointed!! Gated entrance with a code took you into a beautiful campsite with ample spaces, an array of spectacular fruit trees and bushes, relaxing and peaceful atmosphere and lovely walks around the site. Lovely clean and maintained toilet blocks and a washing up area with a freezer. There was a shower block for male and female which were clean and maintained, however there were only 2 showers each for the whole site, which wasn't really an issue when we stayed as the site was quite quiet, but maybe this would be an issue in high season. Saying that this did not put us off and we had such a lovely week!! Major shops just a 10 minute drive away, a lovely little cafe just a short drive away called 'The Stables' which served lovely breakfasts and afternoon teas. Sutton Hoo is well worth a visit for the history of the famous Anglo-Saxon burial ground that was discovered here, (the film is well worth watching also) and for beautiful walks i highly recommend Rendlesham Forest! Stunning!! With amazing walks for all abilities and only a short drive from the campsite. Overall I would highly recommend staying at Low Farm campsite and we hope to return in the future.

Wildlife non-electric grass pitch

Liked Truly wonderful site, found a lovely secluded spot between bushes full of berries and trees teeming with acorns. Had my breakfast with a robin and dinner with butterflies. Lovely facilities, very hot showers and washing up (at the right height!) is under cover for the lovely British weather. Site was clean, quiet and everyone was respectful of each other’s space. As a solo camper I felt safe and serene.
Great bonus is it being child free! No noisy squeals while you’re reading your book, no kids running around the facilities and no teens showing off in their saxo (am I showing my age now?)
Really good location, 15 mins away from Felixstowe- great sea for swimming in! 25 mins away from Alton Water for paddle boarding and feeding highland cows.
Jimmy’s farm is not far.. I nipped past for some bacon from the farm shop! Delish.
No wifi but reception was strong, 4G sometimes dropped or was slow at times (on TalkMobile)

Local attractions

Works by Constable and Gainsborough are among the highlights of the art collection at the 16th-century Christchurch Mansion, just north of the town centre in Ipswich (20 minutes' drive). Restaurants and bars line the redeveloped Ipswich Waterfront, where it’s also possible to go on boat trips along the River Orwell. Discovered in 1939, the burial ground at National Trust - Sutton Hoo (20 minutes) yielded an Anglo-Saxon warrior’s boat grave laden with precious artefacts, from an ornate helmet to intricate gold jewellery and gemstones. Most of the treasure is now in London’s British Museum, but there are replicas here, plus a tower to survey the burial ground from above. Fancy a little water-based action? Head to Alton Water Sports Centre (25 minutes), where you can have a go at paddleboarding, hire a canoe to explore this large reservoir, or bounce and slide on the inflatables at the water park. Alton Water also has a couple of fishing spots, bird hides and viewpoints.
