Wild camping in suffolk
Hidden in the woods
Summer at lions row wild camping in suffolk.

  • Peaceful, family-friendly and spacious wild camping on a Suffolk farm
  • Sutton Hoo 10 minutes’ drive and The Suffolk Punch Trust 20 minutes
  • Off-grid site on a working farm; pets welcome; woodland walks nearby
When it’s a ‘proper’ Suffolk wild-camping adventure you’re after, have a look at Lions Row, a spacious back‑to‑basics site on a working farm just outside Ufford. It’s completely surrounded by countryside, but only a handy five minutes’ drive from the pubs, takeaways and shops in Wickham Market. You'll park at the edge of a three-acre meadow and walk around 50–250 yards to the pitches, which are mown into the long grass. It’s a clever spot for families as it’s a mile from the nearest road, making it quiet and safe for kids to roam freely without any danger from traffic. As this is wild camping, facilities are minimal: drinking water, a simple washing-up sink, compost loos and basic gas-heated outdoor showers are your lot. However, you’ll wake up to birdsong every morning and go to sleep by starlight on clear nights; just remember to bring torches and batteries for after-dark wanderings. The views are peaceful and rural, and the field is bordered by deciduous woodland – great for exercising any four-legged pals – criss-crossed with footpaths leading to country pubs (there are four within half an hour’s walk). It’s also close to heritage attractions such as Sutton Hoo (10 minutes’ drive).

Woodland non-electric forest floor campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Woodland pitches, well presented composting toilets - best I’ve every been in, an owner who really cares about the guests and their site, the wildlife, the facilities nearby, woodbridge is beautiful, spiting distance of Sutton Hoo and a much nicer site than the one at the National Trust site, lovely warm showers, real off-grid feel.

Woodland non-electric forest floor campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site is beautiful, peaceful and relaxed. The welcome and instructions from Charlie were all top notch and I was glad to learn more about him, his family and their farm. We had a forest pitch for our van which was just right, plenty of space and just wild enough for us. A real gem of a site.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We're so pleased you enjoyed the quiet, peaceful atmosphere here at Lions Row.

Thanks as well for the heads-up about the potholes on the approach road—we know those rural Suffolk farm tracks can give suspensions a real test after heavy weather! We appreciate you taking it in good humor, and we'll keep doing our best to keep the track as smooth as possible for our guests.

Local attractions

Start your Suffolk wanderings with a potter around the historic market town of Woodbridge (15 minutes’ drive), where you can stroll along the River Deben and tour the tide mill (one of two left working in the country). For further immersion in English culture, visit the burial site at National Trust - Sutton Hoo (15 minutes) to see the Anglo-Saxon treasure trove and ship excavated in the 1990s. Continuing with the heritage theme, Orford Castle (25 minutes) is a monumental 12th-century edifice built by King Henry II; it is open for exploration of the keep, chapel and towers. Framlingham Castle (20 minutes) might also be on your sightseeing schedule for its rampart walks and 19th-century workhouse museum. If the kids get restless, ditch the history lessons and head for the shingle Aldeburgh beach (half an hour), or have a stroll around the salt marshes and heathland of Deben Peninsula National Landscape (15 minutes). You can also go kayaking and paddleboarding on the Deben (10 minutes), meet rare horses at The Suffolk Punch Trust (20 minutes) and have a day communing with sheep, goats and alpacas at Easton Farm Park (15 minutes).
