Experience living in an earth-sheltered house in the midst of a haven for nature. Enjoy living closer to the land and the seasons beneath a gently curved earthen roof. Watch dawn rising over the nearby woodland, sit by an open fire as dusk bird chorus begins or step out at night to see the canopy of stars overhead. Inside, the rooms are spacious and light, with an open plan kitchen and dining room, and a comfortable cosy lounge. The generous glass on the east facing facade allows the sun to warm the house. The earthen roof keeps this warmth in winter and cools the house in the summer. The house is a rated and has a feeling of tranquility throughout. From your door, you can walk out onto meadows where nature is returning in abundance. Sit in your private and secluded hot tub watching the stars and wildlife spotting. Nectar rich wild flowers for butterflies, briars for song birds, areas of long grass for voles and up overhead the high-flying buzzards. From here, explore the woodland walk that leads past ancient oaks towards the meandering river Ken. If you are lucky, catch a glimpse of a kingfisher, or dwell in the deep peace of the woodland clearings. We can guide you to local markets and organic food suppliers to cook your own food inside or over the open fire.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Electric grass pitch

Liked: This little campsite is a gem that we found. Lovely quiet site with glorious countryside views. We stayed on 1 of the 4 electric pitches and we had a great weekend away. We stayed with friends with small children as well and all the children loved the play park. The owner was lovely and friendly and we can not wait to go back.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Views Maintenance of the site Play park Local area Friendly and helpful owners Lots of hot water

Disliked: Not enough showers/toilets Large group turned up mid-week, children were looking under the cubicle doors, large gaps under doors and no-one to monitor this Expensive to rent fire pit (£15 per night plus £12.50 ish for kindling/fire log pack) Soooo many bugs, could not open the fly net to air out the tent as literally hundreds of them crawling all over the walls and ceilings Very expensive compared to other sites Showers drip, toilet roll ran out due to large group and wasn’t replaced which I would expect given the cost and previous campsite experience. Showers and toilets are shacks with gaps in the doors, dripping heads so you can’t get changed without getting wet and very open to the elements Pitch was quite bumpy and not level

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Pretty much everything. Having read previous reviews I was concerned about the toilet and shower situation. Didn't need to be. I counted 4 toilets between regular campers plus a separate posh block for bell tents. They are spread around the site and each had a shower also (which was nicely warm). Play area for kids a little hidden away but we had it to ourselves. Excellent site.

Disliked: A little to quiet of anything, this place deserves to be busier.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Set in beautiful countryside with some lovely surrounding walks. Lots of wildlife. Pitches were nicely spaced out not piled on top of each other. The shower and toilet facilities were clean however the shower was cold a couple of times and there wasn't enough of them, 2 between 11 pitches we found ourselves queuing sometimes. This didn't have a negative impact on our stay tho. Really is a lovely little site!

Disliked: Our only real problem was the noise on one night. The camp had a no music policy with campers asked to be respectful of others after 10. However the couple opposite with their friends insisted on loud music until way past 11.30, if there are rules someone should be available to enforce them. This was our only real negative experience and it was only 1 night. Could also do with a freezing facility to keep iceblocks cold for those without electric - other sites we've been to have these in the washing up area.

Local attractions

Framlingham town centre and its medieval castle are a quick 15-minute drive from the park. Explore the old buildings, take a stroll around the mere or grab a drink from one of the many independent pubs and cafés that line the streets. Also in the local area, you could see a bit more East Anglian history at Saxtead Green Post Mill (10 minutes), a corn mill dating back to the 13th century, or learn about the more recent past at the Parham Airfield Museum (20 minutes). If you like to be beside the seaside, the historic town of Aldeburgh (35 minutes) is unlikely to disappoint; and if you prefer solitude, the wilder shingle beach at Thorpeness (also 35 minutes) is just down the road too. Most of the local coastline is part of an area of outstanding natural beauty, so you'll find plenty of other quiet beaches, nature reserves and wetlands to explore at your leisure. Further afield, larger towns like Ipswich (30 minutes), Bury St Edmunds (45 minutes) and Colchester (50 minutes) can be reached with ease for shops, cinemas, museums and zoos.
