Whitehouse Farm: Grassy pitches

General

  • Pop-up campsite in rural Suffolk near Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds
  • A 30-minute drive from Thetford Forest Park and Ipswich river cruises
  • Playground and walks on site; pubs, shops and stately homes close by

Want to be in deepest countryside but close enough to a town for a spot of shopping or a night in the pub? Look no further than Whitehouse Farm, set in six acres of glorious Suffolk countryside, well away from roads and traffic noise and yet only 20 minutes’ drive to the pubs and indie shops of Bury St Edmunds.

This is also a super spot for kids, as there is a playground with climbing equipment on site and some fab family walks directly from the camping field – you can bring the pooches too but they need to be kept on leads please.

The pitches are located in the old orchard, where damson, apple, pear and greengage trees add to the scenery. Facilities are simple here but do include loos, showers, a water tap, a washing-up area and a laundry room.

Barbecues are available if you feel inspired to cook, and there's a communal firepit too. You can pick up supplies in Stowmarket (15 minutes’ drive) – and if not, well… those Bury St Edmunds pubs await.

Please note

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Group bookings of 5 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

We enjoyed our first ever camping trip as a family here in Robs rent a tent. The tent itself was very large & clean and Rob was on hand to help us settle. Our 1 year old had a fab time running around exploring, as did our Standard Poodle who enjoyed being on the long lead we took with us. The little play park was great and there was lots of little tracks to walk down. There’s a wheel barrow if you need it to take your luggage down but the walk isn’t long. The toilet and shower facilities were good and were cleaned over night which was a nice touch. The view from the rent a tent was lovely. There was a camp fire which other guests enjoyed.

Beautiful surroundings with lots of birds and wildlife. A pond suitable for swimming and tadpole collecting, complete with a row boat. A great play area for the kids and lots of space for walks. A communal fire pit complete with sofa and the option of individual fire pits and bbqs.
A newly refurbished toilet block with showers. Washing up facilities and plenty of access to water.
The pitches are well situated with a choice of the field or small wooded area. The hire tent is huge and ideal for families and the shepherd huts are completed to a very high standard. The owner is very friendly.
All in all a great place to stay.

We were so glad to have found this campsite. Very clean facilities. Rob was extremely helpful and very accommodating as we wanted a grass pitch for or van rather than gravel as we took our dogs. Space is excellent and the layout means it feels very private. The Maypole pub is a pleasant 20 minute walk away. Would recommend visiting Ickworth house and Thetford forest park. Thank you 😊

First time here and did not disappoint, we had tent pitch and it was a very basic site as still quite new but for what it was we loved it.. we camp a few times a year and this was one of best.. the owner Rob was so helpful and lovely he checked on everyone all the time and has lots of upcoming things happening so definitely keep an eye on.. toilets and showers were very clean and suitable and he also made communal fire pits which were a really nice touch to talk to other people the whole site was kept very clean.. we would go back again especially as the owner really is lovely. There is a pub which has re opened about 15 min walk local shops a short drive away with everything you need. He also has cottages on site and small cabins which were lovely. We would recommend this site for campers!

Small, peaceful and relaxed site. Warm welcome from Rob. Sparkling shower and toilet block. Perfect for families with younger children and (not so) oldies like us. Pitches are either in a small orchard or the meadow beyond. Nice that cars have to be parked away from the pitches (a wheelbarrow is available to cart tents etc); it makes it so peaceful and safe. I wish I had brought my swimming gear- I'd have tried the pond out.
Communal fire pits are a nice touch for colder evenings.
