Pitches

  • Quiet, family-friendly Suffolk site 15 minutes’ drive from Stowmarket
  • Bury St Edmunds 25 minutes’ drive; the Suffolk coast about an hour
  • Fishing lake and gear hire on site; shop and pub five minutes’ drive
When relaxation and peace – perhaps with a bit of fishing thrown in – is what’s required on a sojourn in rural Suffolk, Five Acre Holiday Camp fits the bill very neatly indeed. Set in the sleepy village of Wyverstone, the site is 15 minutes’ drive from the market town of Stowmarket and just over an hour by car from the coast, putting days out in Aldeburgh and Southwold on the sightseeing agenda. Edged by sheltering trees and overlooking peaceful countryside, the spacious and dog-friendly camping field has a limited number of pitches, so there’s room for everyone to spread out. You also have access to a modern shower block at the edge of the field. Firepits and barbecues are allowed (bring your own or rent them from reception). There is also a fishing lake stocked with good-sized carp on site, with equipment hire available too. Five Acre is handily located five minutes by car from Bacton, with a shop where you can pick up any self-catering essentials and a good food pub – if you want to make a night of it, it’s half an hour to walk back to the site.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Loved the peace and quiet, the natural field margins with wild flowers (not the biting bugs though) and lovely walk to the local shop and picking up fresh vegs on the road side.

Disliked Needed a washing up area next to the washing block. Also no signage indicating there was a washing area, fridge/freezer and washing machines in stable block. One found out by chance.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked Very peaceful and quiet. Generally a tidy site, and toilet facilities clean.
In the process of building disabled toilet and shower facility, which looks very nice.
Barry, the owner was friendly and helpful

Disliked Lots of areas that could be improved, some of these were reported to the owner, who said they were "in hand". Toilets generally clean, but did not get daily attention although there were not many caravans on site. Gents full of cobwebs ( cleared on last day we were there, but ought to have been done daily). Ran out of loo roll (no signs as to where spares kept) Ants in shower window, falling into shower tray. Could see gents urinals and full view of gents urinating if door was opened. Only one toilet in gents. Missing or sticking locks on ladies toilets and showers. Toilet bins not emptied daily. Toilets needed a "womans" touch. Some roads to access the site were single track. Not sure there was compliance with distance between units. We had a motor home 5 feet from our caravan. Think it was slightly overpriced for the facilities available.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice quiet location for a really peaceful overnight stay.
Spoke to the owner and got the impression it's a fairly new venture and he is trying to think of ways to supply fun activity for kids but without disruption to the adults .
A really nice guy with some good plans and ideas.

Disliked Just some items lacking signage such as taps without "drinking water" signs on but the owner did say he was in the process of adding signs.

Liked It was a lovely quiet site everyone was very friendly

Disliked It’s not a fully serviced pitch like it says, it had water and electric not nothing for waste! There’s nothing for the kids to do

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi
Yes there is a waste treatment plant just infront of the Disable toilet and shower room at the end of the male and female toilet and shower block.
Sorry but it's on my list to do, to put a sign up, i should have said when you first came on site.

Best regards.
Barry

Local attractions

Pretty market towns to discover locally include Stowmarket (15 minutes’ drive), where you can visit the bijou Museum of East Anglian Life or watch live music at the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts. Historic Bury St Edmunds (25 minutes) has a handsome old abbey to potter around and is fast becoming Suffolk’s epicurean centre; it’s home to a Michelin-starred restaurant as well as numerous pubs and global dining options. Hikes and bike rides await in scenic countryside; you can walk along the River Stour in Dedham Vale National Landscape (35 minutes), and follow waymarked trails across heathland in Arger Fen and Spouse’s Vale Nature Reserve (50 minutes). If the kids get bored with walking, there are play areas and high-ropes courses in Thetford Forest (half an hour). When you’re heading for the Suffolk coast, be sure to take a guided tour of The Red House in Aldeburgh, the former home of composer Benjamin Britten, or eat fish and chips on the pier at Southwold (both about an hour).
