  • Well-maintained, landscaped adults-only park near Polstead in Suffolk
  • A 20-minute drive to Lavenham, and 25 minutes to Ipswich Waterfront
  • Essentials shop on site; food pub five minutes’ walk away
Its rural location on the edge of a Suffolk conservation area ensures visitors to Polstead Country Park have plenty to do during their stay. The pretty village of Polstead is five minutes’ drive away, and walkers have access to a network of footpaths from there, taking in ancient woodland scattered with bluebells in spring, while overnighting cyclists can pick on the South Suffolk Cycle Route with a 10-minute ride from the park. If you've brought the car, your options widen even further – animal parks, stately homes and beaches are all within half an hour’s drive. Landscaped with flowers, neat hedges and shady mature trees, the pitches at this adults-only site are generously sized and immaculately maintained. Spotless modern facilities include shower facilities with underfloor heating and a dedicated accessible bathroom, while washing-up sinks and a laundry area make it easy to keep everyone and everything looking shipshape. The friendly staff at reception can let you have all sorts of information on the local area and places to visit, and there’s also a small site shop stocked with essentials. If you fancy a break from cooking, there’s a foodie pub within five minutes’ walk and other options in Polstead village.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Pitch was private, quiet and level. Facilities were very good, nice toilet block with clean loos and hot showers. Loved the background music ! Staff really welcoming, friendly and helpful. We walked to the dog friendly Cock Inn for a really nice and well priced meal, 40 mins through beautiful woodland and quiet lanes with the help of the directions and map available in reception. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back. Thank you for a very chilled stay Polstead Country Park.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: 3rd time staying here now as we love the site so much. Very friendly site and the people that run it are very friendly also. The toilet/shower block are one of the best we have used. Warm, shower nice a hot with great water pressure and can have a dance too whilst listening to the music lol. Two pubs you can walk too, one up the road 10 min walk and another through the woods the opposite way about 4 mins walk. Will be returning again for sure.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We had a really enjoyable long weekend. Pitches are large and well maintained with hedging to provide privacy. We chose a south facing pitch which was lovely. This did however mean we were close to the road so we did experience a fair amount of road noise. The staff at the site are really friendly and helpful. The shower and toilet area are cleaned daily and more than adequate for the site. I felt the shower areas would benefit from a deep clean as there was black mould and limescale in the cubicles The location is good for walking and the Cock Inn pub was a real find . We also visited Kersey and Lavenham which were lovely.

Disliked: The site has two roads nearby and there is a lot of road noise regardless of where you are pitched but it wouldn’t prevent us from returning. I do think the shower cubicles would benefit from deep cleaning

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much Tina for taking time to leave such a great review and some fab pics! The showers are checked and cleaned more than once a day and we are in an area of such hard water that the water marks on the back plates are an ongoing battle, but we appreciate your feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to welcome you again in the not too distant future.

Local attractions

Pretty Suffolk villages to explore include Kersey (five minutes’ drive) with its half-timbered houses and thatched cottages, while Lavenham (20 minutes) has a stunning guildhall and fine 14th-century church. For a bit of a date night, Ipswich (25 minutes) has lots of bars and restaurants along its lively waterfront, as well as a theatre and cinema. There are pretty country yomps along the River Stour to Flatford Mill (25 minutes) and Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) in Constable Country. You can see another artist’s house on the walking trail from National Trust-owned Melford Hall (20 minutes) to Sudbury (15 minutes), which takes in three old water mills and Thomas Gainsborough’s house en route. Looking for animal encounters on your rural break? Feed lambs (in season), groom horses and cuddle up to friendly donkeys at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, or get up close to the reptiles, creepy crawlies and butterflies at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (both half an hour). Or how about touring a couple of local vineyards? Giffords Hall (half an hour) and Burnt House (45 minutes) are both open for tours and tastings – it’s best to book in advance.
