Cosy Camping Suffolk: Pitches in a large grass field

General

  • Small family-run site on a working arable farm 10 miles from Ipswich
  • 15 minutes' drive from Felixstowe beach on the Suffolk coast
  • Hire a firepit for keeping warm and toasting marshmallows

Cosy by name, cosy by nature – this small site in the Suffolk countryside is part of a working arable farm that’s been in the same family for more than 75 years. As guests, you are cordially invited to share this friendly corner of the Ramsey family home, 10 miles from Ipswich and easily accessible from the A14 and A12.

Peace, quiet and the great outdoors are all yours for the taking at Cosy Camping Suffolk, with little to distract you from the important business of enjoying life in the slow lane. There are no organised activities or fancy facilities here, but there’s heaps of space for kids to run around and play games. When evening comes, hire one of the site’s firepits to gather round to toast marshmallows while having a good old-fashioned natter.

As it’s a petite site you’ll not have to walk too far from your pitch to find the toilet block, which has showers and a handy wet room for use by families or less mobile guests. If you're going to light up a barbie, the owners recommend picking up supplies from one of the farm shops in Trimley, five minutes’ drive away, or heading to the excellent Suffolk Food Hall in Ipswich.

You may prefer to avoid the washing-up altogether of course, in which case you can take a 20-minute stroll to the nearest pub for freshly prepared meals and local cask ales.

Please note

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Brilliant site! We loved it! The owners were really friendly and welcoming, they gave us good advice for days out. The site is well spaced out, very well kept, with clean facilities. There is a small shop stocking essentials such as ice , drinks, chocolate, even gas canisters! They will freeze ice packs for you and there are picnic tables dotted around that you can take to your tent pitch. You can hire fire pits and they will provide logs (also chargeable) The Shannon pub is within walking / cycling distance. We actually walked to the Fox at Newbourne (around 3 miles each way) and would throughly recommend it. Slight noise at night from the nearby A roads. Really easy to find and reach from the A14 or A12.

Incredibly clean, spacious and friendly site with helpful staff. A great area for exploring the Suffolk coast and villages. Our pod was cosy, spotless and comfortable with thoughtful and useful touches. Showers and toilets were also in excellent order.

    We will definitely be back.

Rating for WIFI - I didn't test it, so I'm leaving this blank. Switch off and listen to the birds instead.

    Disliked:

We stayed in a pod, which was comfortable and quiet. Be aware that this is agricultural country and if it's dry, you may be subjected to the sound of overnight watering in adjacent fields, which could be loud in a tent. Just pretend it's the sea.

Local attractions

This part of Suffolk is famed for its beaches, and your nearest will be in Felixstowe, which you can reach with a 15-minute drive or a half-hour cycle. Walk through the Seafront Gardens to reach the beach, and then head north along the coast to see the Martello Towers that were built here to keep Napoleon’s army out in the early 19th century.

20 minutes’ drive from the farm is the archaeological site Sutton Hoo; more recent history can be seen at the Ipswich Transport Museum – exhibits include fire engines, buses, trams and horse-drawn vehicles from the 19th and 20th centuries.

For some farmyard fun, spend the day at Jimmy’s Farm, 15 minutes away, where you can meet animals including sheep, ponies, pigs and meerkats – don’t forget to pick up a bag of food to feed them. If the horses are your faves, you can see some handsome native types at the Suffolk Punch Centre, half an hour away.

If you’ve been inspired to get out on horseback, there’s a riding centre 20 minutes away that has activities for kids and adults. Golfers, meanwhile, have a choice of two courses within a 20-minute drive.
