  • Peaceful off-grid camping pods at a Suffolk working farm
  • A 15-minute drive to Southwold; Africa Alive 20 minutes
  • In a secure fenced area with firepit and shared kitchen and washroom
It was farmer’s daughter Helen that came up with the idea of setting up camping pods at Suffolk’s Low Farm. When they were installed in 2023, they were named after her – becoming known as Hellie Pods – and with good reason, because she did most of the work herself to make sure it was done just right. The pods have been set up in a quiet and private area of this working beef and arable farm about 10 minutes’ drive from Halesworth. The area has been fenced off to separate it from the field of horses grazing next door, so it’s fairly safe for kids – but please note it's not foolproof, so you'll still need to keep an eye on youngsters and secure adventurous dogs). Speaking of dogs, they're very welcome here – there are plenty of walking areas and dog-friendly pubs and attractions around, and you can also hire the family's nearby secure dog field at Sotherton Dog Meadow if you like. The pods are sturdy and kitted out with beds and mattresses (a double bunk plus two singles underneath), but be aware that you’ll need to bring bedding along. Each pod has a charcoal barbecue and a firepit (with wood and firelighters provided), and you'll have access to a shared kitchen pod that's got a fridge and space to prep food and wash up (again, you'll need to bring a stove and cooking kit along for this). Keeping things nicely eco-friendly, the pods are powered by solar energy so they've got enough wattage to charge gadgets but not to power things like kettles and hairdryers.

Guests consistently praise Hellie Pods for its peaceful, secluded rural location, ideal for a relaxing escape. The pods are described as clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, with thoughtful extras like fire pits, BBQs, and marshmallows. The hosts are frequently highlighted as friendly, helpful, and communicative. While most reviewers found the facilities, including the shared toilet and shower, to be clean and adequate, a few mentioned potential issues if both pods are occupied. Camping pod

Liked Helen’s attention to detail when setting up the two pods at Hellie Pods was second to none.
Everything has been considered.

The pod.
My pod , and I am sure the other one is identical, has one ample double bed and two single beds underneath. Access to the double bed is via a small ladder, that is also ok to traverse when half asleep (midnight toilet run).
The foam mattress was ample having slept on worse beds in Air b and b’s.
The installed solar powered light was efficient, being both inside and in the roof on the verandah, with a second switch on the back wall if in the double bed (nice touch)
There is a smoke alarm and two sockets (by the front door) for charging phones etc.
There is a fire extinguisher, a handy flip top bin, a small table, welcome book and a box of bbq utensils.
There is also a fridge, which was really handy for perishables and beer.
There are also 3 comfortable chairs.

The toilet / shower shed.
On the outside is a good sized sink area with hot and cold running water and a good sized worktop, two bins, a box of hand towels cups and plates and some children’s out door toys.
Helen also supplied 6 mugs, a tea towel and a washing up cloth with washing up liquid.
Inside the shed is a composting toilet (easy to use after reading the instructions) a shower, a bin, spare toilet paper, hand sanitizer and a well kitted out first aid kit. Also a very handy little jug for use with the toilet.

The small field the pods are in is totally enclosed with a field gate that has to be kept shut.
This area would be good for small families.
I was on my own for two nights and it was incredibly quiet and peaceful with very little light pollution.

Another little touch were the fairy lights that illuminated the pods and surrounding fence,
By the way, there were strategically placed security lights that illuminated everything you needed to use in the dark (access to the toilet and sink area)

Helen’s communication was excellent and friendly.

For a pod break this is absolutely excellent.
The Suffolk coast being close and also served with drivable local amenities.

Even a beer fridge.

Camping pod

Liked Very cute! Very quiet and peaceful. Good location. The owner had thought of most things you might need for camping making it easier

Disliked The bed is extremely uncomfortable, only a few hours sleep! Having some kind of way of making a hot drink in the morning would be a good added extra.

Camping pod

Liked We loved everything here. We had one pod for my husband and myself and the other for our young adult daughters, so this little piece of Heaven Earth was all ours. Spotless clean, very comfy, lots of extra touches like marshmallows, bbq, and a bowl for our dog. Just perfect. We will definitely return. Also the bottom beds look smaller in the photos, they're a good size. We also booked the dog field for our dog, which he loved.
